Washing the coupe before I rolled it into the garage, I discovered the old paint was under the flat primer that was sprayed on it where the coupe was chopped in the 80's
the color turned out to be a GM color called Tropic Turquoise from a 1958 Chevy Impala
my son saw what I was doing and decided to help out with the process.
moving forwards the roof and deckled will be color matched to the rest of the car. it was a fun long very rewarding process...thanks for all the recent likes, follows and comments ! I'm new to this RU-vid thing and you guys are my motivation.

Yeah I agree. Rodding had lost it's roots everywhere except with the Shifters back then. They were responsible for the rebirth of the sport from the boring checkbook cars where most people that drove one weren't Hot Rodders, just wannabe's with money.

A neighbor guy in the 1960's had a `39 Ford coupe painted Turquoise. It looked pretty sweet that color. It had baby moon caps with beauty rings on turquoise rims and big wide whitewall tires. The interior was done in a deeper turquoise and white tuck and rolled - that wasn't upholstered very well. Never saw the engine - but it was a V8 with loud cherry bomb mufflers.

@ThisOldHotrod
@ThisOldHotrod 4 года назад
Mystery Meat absolutely staying with the chrome reversed. I won’t change that. I have found an old vintage set that have a similar patina as the fronts. I’m not a huge fan of pie crusts. I like the look but the ride is horrible. I drive my cars and want them to drive nice.
@LivingOnCash
@LivingOnCash 4 года назад
@@ThisOldHotrod I was thinking about a set of the Towel City Pie Crusts for my '34 coupe. I didn't know they had a hard ride. What do you think you will run for tires? What size are the chrome reversed's that you found?
@ThisOldHotrod
@ThisOldHotrod 4 года назад
Mystery Meat they’re 15”x 8” chrome reverse w a 3.5” back spacing. Similar to what is on the car now. 15x8.5” I’m not entirely sure what I’ll run for tires. The ones on the car are 8.20-15. If I can find a similar size I’ll buy them. Not sure who is making a tire that size that have a wide tread patch like these. I have H-78’ on my 30 coupe. The L-78 tires are a bit taller than the H and may be a good candidate. I haven’t got that far yet.
@LivingOnCash
@LivingOnCash 4 года назад
@@ThisOldHotrod My wheels are also 15x8 but had smaller tires to fit under the fenders. I just took the fenders off and will probably channel the body some but will run a taller tire (in the process of converting from a street rod to a proper hot rod). Been looking around at various options but haven't found anything I like. I like the square edged look of the pie crusts but I too will be driving this car a lot so want a nice ride. Not crazy about the look of radials because they all have that rounded edge and just don't look right on a traditional car. I'll be following you to see what you come up with.

You won't be sorry if you get one in the 34. In this same pickup normally would have a chevy in it and on Fri or Sat night drags if he got beat, we would go home and switch in the pontiac with 3-2s and come back the next night and race for money. I still like the coupe. I was wondering what size are the front and rear tires? Also how wide and long are the front fenders? When the car was built did it have bobbed rear fenders?
@ThisOldHotrod

Ed Hawk 5:60 fronts 8:00 rears. Fenders are made from spare tire rings of 35/36 ford pass cars. Very common hotrod fender here on the east coast

Ed Hawk the car had home made fiberglass rear fenders the builder made back in 62/63. They were molded from a buck he made himself. They were removed at some point. I have pictures of the car from 68 with the fenders on it. I’ll add all the history and pictures in an up coming video as well as my letting with the owner of the coupe who purchased it off the guy who built the car. They were coo workers and friends.
