These are not "rations", they are treats. All German rations were supplied by food kitchens and then taken to the troops. They did not have anything like C or K rations.
This would make a rather unsatisfying ration on its own. As a pick-me-up shared with one’s comrades, it might be quite pleasant insofar as anything for a frontkämpfer would be.
Towards the end of the war the Germans tried to replicate the us K ration for the frontline troops who were on patrol or couldn’t get to a proper food kitchen for their rations.
@@sperlongatours yah this “reproduction” was basically all candy. Also frontline troops would rarely be issued the ration that I spoke of due to it being developed to late in the war.
Yup..... in theory my day back in the late 90s we had a similar deal that was supposed to handed to front line.......it was Beanie weenies, charms candy, chocolate etc basiclly sundries or treats
During the Bulge, the German captured, along with tens of thousands of fresh, well equipped American troops, thousands of tons of US rations......the Bulge was interesting in that Antwerp was the objective, the most sensible route was through British and Canadian lines, yet they chose the Americans.......
Oddly enough,in both ww1 and ww2 there was a lot of behind the scenes trades between the sides for various items needed for war........medical,food,even rifle scopes and machine guns
That's correct. The only question is whether Manner was forced to produce chocolate for the Wehrmacht ... or started to do it voluntarily. I have a personal opinion towards that.
One thing that was a common addition to many of the Rations, I believe their weekly Ration was a thing called Erbswurst. Think of freeze dried Split Pea Soup that is formed into Tablets and then packaged with seven Tablets in a Roll. Each Tablet made one cup of Soup. (They still make them and they don't taste bad. I carry them in my Emergency Kits.)
@@KevinSmith-yh6tl They aren't easy to find in the United States. You can however find them on Amazon being sold by sellers in Germany. They are made by Knorr. The Flavor isn't bad, I've eaten them on occasion. I would recommend adding some Bacon Bits as well as some Black Pepper. (I have added some Mashed Potatoes when using these for Camping and that works out well.) I have made dehydrated Split Pea Soup which works out well but it takes up a lot more room than the ErbsWurst. (It does taste better though.)
Did you just call German chocolate "run of the mill"!? Oh boy. The taste you're trying to describe is the quality high cacao content, and less sugar than normal chocolate. That's what makes most German chocolate so delicious.
Nice new review Nathan. This replica looks great. Oberst is the german officer rank for Colonel and Zigaretten means cigaretts. The biscuit says Leibniz Butterkeks. A german brand that still exsists today. My favorite brand for butter cookies. The Smokes would be something for Oldsmokey.
I have one of these rats but no actual cigs in it. They sent papers for me to roll my own haha. Anyways from the reseach I did on this little ration. This is the German equivalent to the k ration. German soldiers found a bunch of left behind k rats and loved them so much the German military tried to replicate it. I have some cool original photos and more info. I might still review that thing one day.
Hey it's a shame you didn't at least download the app beforehand or prepare in any sort of way to understand the things written on the packs. It's a nicely recreated ration pack and really interesting in itself
Almost 70% was the wrong goods. Correct would have been: 1 x deli vitamin sweets, 2 x black tea, 2 x tube cheese 2 x hard biscuits 2 x 1 x pork in jelly preserves 1 x margarine 1 x jam field ration peach 1 x strawberry.Knorr pea sausage (dried peas, bacon powder, soup vegetables) pressed into drops, 2 of which make 500 ml of soup12 x Juno cigarettes 20 x Weltholzer matches.Scho Ka Kola dark ( the blue one comes 1992 on marked ) was Marketender ware ( Extra not for the normal Soldier only for fighters in missions or the Pilots of the Luftwaffe, and there is missing Pervertin Pills ( crystal meth now called ) . Greeting from Germany
Regular German ration: Hahnchenfleisch (chicken), Rinderbraten (roast beef) or Truthahabraten (turkey), Hartkeks or Knockobrot biscuits, Kondessupe (Tomato or split pea), Glocksklee condensed milk or Bohnenkaffee, sometimes Schokolade dark chocolate, plus matches and latrine paper.
@Vee Cee who really cares? Steve is the only one doing it until now. The market has been open. Buddy is making money off of your views and complaints so more power to him.
@@kylehurd6956 every army did that and still does this.they drug the people , like doping.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pv_gYslczFw.html
the word nazi will attract attention. a friend once told me... a book stores most popular book is anything with a swastika on it. so right a book, slap a swastika on it. and you have a seller. jajajaja
Place potential stale/dried out smokes in the freezer for 2 hours then take out let sit for 15 minutes that should bring them back to life. FYI this tip for smokers of old MRE smokes not for Nathan
Man..Took forever to get the video going. You should probably refrain from stopping in the middle of a sentence to clean up crumbs on the tray..this video was painful to get through brother.
I had to eat powdered eggs in the military and in VA hospital.......they don't taste like the best farm fresh eggs you ever had but they aren't bad by any means unless you never been hungry with nothing to eat
Quite amateur, the way of presenting this video. Do we really need to see wiping the products and useless knife talk? Focus on the products, open them, show them, showcase them, explain even possibly origins and reasons for using, etc. That would make it less boring and good for the channel! The video is way longer than it needs to be, really.
Pervertin comes in pills not in the Chocolate it was given a missleading soldier therm "Panzerschockolade" but has nothing to do with the Scho-Ka-Kola "Flieger-" or "Bomber-" Schokolade.
They did not use egg powder from America. It was supplied to the USSR under Lend-Lease program. Nathan was mistaken and had to show him in a review of the rations of soldiers of the red army
I love the Comments its "fake" 1.) He states its "repro" so a new made item to authentic quality. 2.) this is a ration. Studying the German military for 10 years as a hobby, This type ration came about in the 43-44 timeframe. Rations like this were given as "gifts" to boost moral, before offensives or after offensives "depends" as at this point day/night bombing made transportation difficult to say the least. Rations don't need to be a meal, Survival, candy any item provide to troop to "eat" or sustain themselves "candles, paper, stamps water, candy" is a ration
You're a nice guy and your video is lovely. But this fake Wehrmacht ration is far from being "authentic", I'm afraid. As far as my literature tell me, fruit bars like the one we see in the video had not been invented before 1967. They're pretty modern. The term "Fruchtriegel" is also a modern term, back then similar bars made of nougat existed as "Nougatschnitten" (literally "cuts" since those were cut into bars and not produced as bars. Details. Also, I couldn't find a company called "Felsche". Definitely wrong are the cigarettes! Waldorf-Astoria (Yes, the immigrants from Walldorf in Germany founded the grand hotel in New York city) was a German tobacco company that existed from 1906 to 1929! The name and the brand "Oberst" were liquidated in 1929 and taken over by the Reemtsma Tobacco Company from Hamburg, Germany, where I live. They produced "Astor" cigarettes from 1930 until 2015. So, it's obvious that the Wehrmacht couldn't have any cigarettes that had not been produced any longer since 1929, isn't it? All in all, I'm terribly sorry but the replica package doesn't look authentic at all to me. Regards from Germany!
German soldiers had American products (Like the American dried egg powder) during World War 2?! I would have never guessed that I would have assumed that there would have been some kind of embargo in place or something.
At the end of the war, my dad's squad captured German soldiers who were starving. It was either Check, or Romania, they anything my dad. I showed something like this Dad 15 years ago, nope they were starving.
Hey. Firstly, in chocolate was not cocaine, but pervitin. They did not use egg powder from America. It was supplied to the USSR under Lend-Lease program. Nathan was mistaken and had to show him in a review of the rations of soldiers of the red army
Did they only issue this to NAZI,s or all troops?? If all troops its a Wehrmacht ration surely?? Or was there NAZI and WEHRMACHT rations ?? That's to say 2 different styles of ration??
Ich hab meinen Opa nie kennengelernt aber ich weiß, er war irgendwo an der Front. Interessant zu sehen mit was er da an Nahrung zurechtkommen musste. 😊
