Hi Goat...I must say, that radio sounds great. That speaker is in such great condition....It's beautiful...now on to part 2 , and to make the cabinet beautiful! You got a great deal on that radio for 20 bucks! I asked Doug if you would be pissed if I painted the transformer red, and he said "NO", that down deep you like red.. Is that true? haha🤣 I hope John comes back to making videos, if only for a few radio restores.

Hay Billy, Edie and I went to Drunkin Donuts, I was thinkin about you and your family. I should uave made a flap vid; Our apple cinnamon donuts, was half filled, Edie complained anr they gave her another haof filled skimpy donut, lol. But the cowfee was good, and we also got their sausage n egg on a cressaunt, that was very good. I didn't have my silly fone or camera with me, so maybe a flap next time if she is able to go.

Great video Buzz as always on the radio and thank you for sharing the news about John in Arkansas he was the one who introduced a lot of us to your channel. For myself I knew nothing about repairing or restoring an old radio and John was the first u-tube I discovered. He recommended your channel to us and between you and him it was an encyclopedia of knowledge put out there for all of us and you both made it so much fun to watch. I understand not making vids, I do more watching, but plan on doing some soon, long over do. It really is a struggle, you, Bill, John, Carl, and others we know being 70+, I sure enjoy all your vids. Edie and I celebrated 49 years on her 69 birthday, I'll be 69 in June. We count each day as a blessing, and very slowly do things that need get done. Making virs adds to my efforts, not easy. But I must get off my lazy ass chair, whilst I still can. Edie is weak, and falls, she has trouble walking and driving. It's scarey in a way, we tend to be homebound. It sux gettin old.

Hi Buzz! Look forward to part 2... but no red grille cloth, ok? 🙂 When replacing a wrecked grille cloth, I've taken to cutting off a clean piece of the original and stapling inside somewhere just as reference to what it looked like out of the factory. Was glad to see the piece about John. He tried doing videos on another platform for awhile but it never took. Then Grandma died, then daughter-in-Jamie, and then wifey. What a rough few years he AND his son have had.

@@Buzz1151 I agree. Sometimes trying to get back to doing what used to be normal is a great way to move forward while paying tribute to those we leave behind. I am sure she would want John to be happy and do what he loved. There is always room for memories nd loving trigutes in the simple things we enjoyed in day to day living. I love those fake addresses on the shipping label. Funny I know both of your names and where you live but I WILL NEVER TELL. The FBI couldn't get me to tell. Ha ha. Glad one of you can still do comedy and do it right. That goes for tube radios dial stringing too apparently. So sorry about John's wife Wifey passing. Classy tribute ending to this video.

you got to laugh and have a good time working on these radios, otherwise why bother! here's hoping John will come back and do a few radios! 🍺🍺

The diagram of the dial cord had the knob turning the opposite rotation of the tuning cap. I guess the standard is to have clockwise increase the band.

Glad to see John from Arkansas. Sorry about his wife. Is he still making videos somewhere? Leaving RU-vid he just hurt his fans and himself. RU-vid could careless. He got me into radios and your videos. Too bad, he was doing good things to teach people. 😢

Hey there Buzz, great video and looking forward to part 2. At the 21:52 to 21:53 mark in your video the speaker looks like it may have a crack along the edge? Bottom right edge at the 5 o'clock position? Or it could be me getting old and needing glasses.
@Buzz1151

you had me worried, so I checked out the video. that was a hair on the speaker....the speaker still looks pristine...but you win a free beer and fry! 🍺🍟

@@Buzz1151 Okey glad I was wrong about the speaker. It has happened to me and there is nothing worse then having to disassemble a radio again. Keep the videos coming, cheers!

Buzz, Generally speaking, are the grid cap wires anything special (shielded for example) or just cloth covered wire?
@Buzz1151
@Buzz1151 Год назад
they are just cloth covered wire., why?
@johnblystone8781
@johnblystone8781 Год назад
@Buzz1151 The reason I asked about the grid wire is that i am restoring a Hammarlund HQ-129 that had been modified to a tube that does not have a grid wire. So I am trying to remove the modification and return the radio back to factory. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks so much. John

I can't tell from where I'm sitting but I think the dial cord may be hitting the left side of that stabilizer bracket causing rapid wear of the dial cord you worked so hard to string. Hopefully we'll get to hear some action on the other bands.
