Those were the fattest they could put on... There were truck tires, sure, but I don't think that's good for racing...

Widder tire where kind of useless with the rubber and no aero, top speed was also very importent because circuit had longer straight.

@@puebespuebes8589 They just didn't have wider tires back then. They weren't yet able to produce a safe and stable wide tire. It all changed with the radial tire and it's evolution. Hence the Auto Union hillclimb car having a pair of rear wheels on each side to increase traction

No, it's Julian Majzub driving his Alfa Romeo 308C. He's owned that car for a long time, he first raced it in 1995 after having it put back together...

That's an Alfa Romeo 8C Monza, a much earlier car than the 308. That very car was raced by Jean-Pierre Wimille in period, and was recently repainted in that light blue with red stripe, which is the livery it had when Wimille raced it.

The narrow wheels isn't the real problem here, it's the swing rear axle. The swing rear axle means that the rear camber changes depending on suspension movement. Lifting off or braking gives it positive camber at the rear, not what you need as you turn into a corner...
