In the last few videos we have gotten the 1938 Ford Convertible closer to being a running and driving car. Before we can take it for a spin, we need to pull the Cadillac engine one last time to go through the engine, clean the engine bay and firewall, and paint everything. Let's get to work!!

Steve's the best thing to happen to ITG IMO. Very talented mechanic and hard worker with a positive attitude and zero drama. Quick to laugh and owns any boo boos. The hot rod world needs more Steve's.

My tip for using rattle cans in winter- pop them into a bucket of hot water for about five minutes, then shake and use. The spray pattern is much better.

I have a whole new appreciation of Steve....it's pretty obvious he is much more than just a "grunt" around the shop. He mist of had a very heavy mechanical background. Also very impressed with your ability to "hop" in and out of that engine compartment . 😀

I always eliminate the road draft tubes.use a freeze plug and pcv valve .it gets rid of the mess and eliminates the chance of dirt being drawn into motor.much better system.no smoke or oil under car covering engine and trans.

Watching Steve cleaning sludge out of block … I suggest running a fill of diesel engine oil for say 500-1000 miles. Diesel formulations have more detergent and additives to keep soot in suspension. Might help clean out block. I’m retired engineer worked in big oil company research and engineering subsidiary so not just making this up 😂😂

As long as you have a good fine oil filter to get rid of whatever gets liberated by that detergent in the oil.

Quaker State Oil strikes again 😂😂 I bought a 78 cougar that had regular oil changes with Quaker State and the valve covers were so clogged up that you had to drizzle the oil into the engine so I took the covers off and found the problem 😬 they weighed ten pounds from all the wax build up. I never used the stuff after that . Mobile One 👍

Nice job on this rescue!!! Love the Cadi blue contrasting with the white firewall! I can appreciate the effort that goes into checking out old power plants. I got lucky with my 57 Catalina, previous owner had a motor freshly rebuilt for the car, then parked it. Even the motor and trans mounts were replaced. Borescope confirms it's almost minty fresh.

I wouldn't be getting on Steve's case about not filming something. All of us who watch every episode can see how hard he works and the expertise that he brings to the job.If you are worried so much about the camera work maybe you could hire a full time cinematographer so you don't lose any useful footage. The 38 is really starting to look great, I can't wait to see how it turns out. I hope you are planning a body work and paint for this car. Its rarity and class cry out for the full treatment. 😎🏁

Lol ! Throwing Steve under the bus , right off the bat ? All good . We saw it go in , to do the motor mounts & set the drive train . Love the music on the teardown ! IMHO . Valve seals , in the case of Chevy , stem wipers . I liked Ford's version (of caps over the valve guides , later small block family 289 , 302 , 351W ) . The spring should be keeping them down , on the top of the guide bushings , to prevent oil leakage down the stem into the cylinders , imho . Love the colors , should run like a top now . Maybe a compression test to see what you have ring-wise , as the valves are lapped , fresh top end gaskets , head /intake /valve covers , & cleaned pan/intake galley . I bet the oil pressure comes up with the clean oil , & maintains higher when it gets hot . It will clean itself the rest of the way out with use & driving . Such a notoriously high torque engine , at lower RPMs , with a 4 speed standard , it will be an all-around cruiser , especially with the high rear end gears . Those intake valves were huge ! I'm glad the Sweetheart Roadster could contribute the needed valves . I'm sure it will sound awesome , especially with a dual exhaust to breathe it right . Love that intake , it really sets the engine off , like an old-school ram-air . Great job guys ! Mike's car could use some white like that . Some of it looks about that color . Rock On , Iron Trap Garage ! Great Team !

Living in Pa. myself it always amazes me how well these old cars held up from rust compared to the new junk they make now. I've seen 1-2 yr old vehicles falling apart for anything made after the 70's. And the amount of computer controlled functions doesn't work with the road salt very long. Oh and Steve don't worry about the video, we all seen motors pulled before.

Are you kidding I’m driving at 2002 Honda that’s fine. Every car I had in the 70s had holes in the floor after five years nobody knew what rustproofing was until about 1998
@87mini
@87mini 7 месяцев назад
@@DanaTheInsane Yep, anyone who was alive back in the 60's through 80's remembers how fast the salt works. Mopars were the worst domestic- they'd rust in CA. Fiats would dissolve within a year, or so it seemed. My buddy drove from the West to upstate NY in '72 in his '59 El Camino, and he said people thought he popped out of a time machine! A few guys would spray down their inner fenders and undercarriage after snow season, and those lasted longer.

Awesome job as always, really enjoy these derelict to running and driving cars. As for the air cleaner on the Caddy motor I think painting it Caddy Blue would be to much and just wash it out with the rest of the motor. That is a cool air cleaner assembly and think a Satin or Semi-Gloss black would suit it much better.
