This 39 LaSalle is a great example of what was about to end in 1940 for the run of the LaSalle that began in 1927. The LaSalle was Cadillacs "entry-level" car that was less expensive, but still had the Cadillac quality. The engine in 39 was the 322 C.I. V8 that looked identical to the 346 that was the Cadillac engine. Great cars and design that came out of the Harley Earl design team era.

the engine is an exact duplicate of the cadillac 346 except they debored it from 3.50 to 3.38 but the stoke stayed at 4.50 on both versions. and you can change the column shifter to a floor shifter by using a side linkage as was done on the muncie 4 speed . my chevy duntovs all were muncie 4 speed side shifters. so the lasalle transmission column shift can become a floor shifter by adding the floor shift part to the current side shift mechanism .though the early hot rodders like the actual floor shift because it was more dependable and did not jam when under shifting pressure.they even sold kits to convert all passenger car 3 on the column to floor shifters.

It's not a "Cadillac LaSalle"....its just a" LaSalle", a separate make in the GM family that mechanically was partially based on and happened to use some Cadillac parts.

Where are you located? -black51 -tan31 '39 Lasalle 5019 in Louisville. Built it with my Dad when I was 12, 27 now, still looking for other Lasalle people to enjoy the car with. I love mine

Hows your valve train noise? After rebuilding it's a solid 35psi oil pressure but louder valves and it should be very quiet. Curious if you've had any issues

Lifter sets are easy to clean and test when out of the engine. They cannot tolerate any carbon or dirt buildup in the seat of the little poppet valve. You have to clean them really well test them by putting oil in them and pushing down with your fingers see if you can push them down or not you should never be able to push them by hand. I thought that I had a video of rebuilding the lifter sets on the Cadillac V8 maybe not. So the Cadillac 346 and they bolted into the engine under the intake manifold in the valley cover each of those four sets can come out you can take them apart one at a time clean them and rebuild them. If you have any that leak down after you clean them pushing by hand and squeezing them to see if they'll go down and not then you haven't cleaned them enough or you're going to have to go to the next step, resealing the inside of them.

Yeah I've been there, whole engine has been apart, cleaned thoroughly and many new parts, my main worry was I don't remember if there was a specific direction the valve springs should go, i wonder if they're upside down like a Packard V12. I have the GM shop manual for the car but I just am not sure. My oil pressure doesn't go below 35 even at idle, the oil flow to lifter blocks has no obstructions. Seems like it's too high, and for that I'm lost as to why the oil pressure isn't 10-25 at idle and climbs as you build speed. It said idle is 6-8mph and 12psi, and it's over twice that and the valves are loud. I'm not around the car at the moment, but I'll post or send you a video of it running as soon as I can, but based on your car mine is wayyy to noisy.
