This 1942 Packard Clipper 🚗 is on loan courtesy of America's Packard Museum located in downtown Dayton Ohio. See this on display in the WWII Gallery next to the P-51D and the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Here's an interview with curator Stu Morris. #cars #automotive #history #packard
Many Packards, such as this one in military olive drab, were used as staff cars in World War II, including by Generals Eisenhower and MacArthur during and after the war. MacArthur even ordered a 1942 Packard 120 eight Clipper custom at his own expense; however, Packard returned his check with a letter of gratitude for his confidence in their products and promised to deliver a car to him in Australia with their compliments. Army Packards often were modified with racks for Thompson submachine guns, sirens, blackout lights and other military equipment, including air conditioning for Gen. Eisenhower and Gen. MacArthur.

This may be my favorite Air Force Museum video ever. I don't know why, but I love both that the car came in through a random side door and that it was driven through the building.

I’ve been to the Air Force museum as well as the packard museum. Both are amazing museums. The day we were at the packard museum the mechanics were going over one of the cars as they also have a few cars available for rental at weddings. The guys working there asked my wife and I wanted to go on a ride and we went for a short trip and through the McDonalds drive thru so they could get some breakfast. Fun times.

Great video! The cinematography, story, and narration is fantastic. A great collaboration between both museums that will hopefully raise awareness of the Packard museum in Dayton. I would love to see more of these types of videos posted.

Packard's pre-war motto was Ask the Man Who Owns One.

Air Force retiree (24 years). I own a '44 Dodge WC-63 and am the Quartermaster for our Local MVPA chapter. Part of the story I try to tell and show at shows is the sacrafice of the American Homefront and how quickly the US shifted into war production. These old vehicles need to run and drive. Seeing these things alive help get young people interested in history and mechanics.

Can The Chieftain fit in a Packard staff car?

There's a discrepancy, with his telling of facts. Did the Packard originate from the NMUSAF, or the Packard museum??? He wasn't very precise, in saying that.
