A delightfully creative medley of musical Americana spanning two sides of a ten-inch 78. Bits of Berlin, Gershwin, Sousa & others connect the five traditional armed services themes: Marines’ Hymn, Semper Paratus (Coast Guard), Army Air Corps, Anchors Aweigh, and The Caisson Song. The Peter Bodge arrangement wraps up with a dramatic Tchaikovsky-flavored “God Bless America” finale.
Transferred and digitally processed from the original 2-sided 78rpm: Victor Red Seal 10-1133 - Salute To Our Fighting Forces (Arr: Bodge) by The Boston Pops Orchestra, conducted by Arthur Fiedler, recorded at Boston Symphony Hall November 20, 1944 .

The order of the service songs actually reflects WW2: 1) The Marines are first to fight in the Pacific and North Africa. 2) Next, the Coast Guard rescues the victims of Pearl Harbor and protects the U.S. mainland from further attacks. 3) The Air Corps clears the way for Invasion Day in Europe. 4) Meanwhile, the Navy pushes back Imperial Japan. 5) Then, the Army liberates Europe and brings down the Reich. 6) Lastly, the Atomb Bomb drives the final bayonet into the heart of the Rising Sun, and "God Bless America" signifies the commencement of a new era for the United States as a world superpower.

The "God Bless America" finale is a corker.... this has to be the best orchestral rendition of this ever recorded... arranged and conducted back when patriotic music was played, well patriotically.
