I forgot to mention I also replaced the emulsion tube in the carb.

Luckily you didn't get hurt. A little bit of repairs on the shop door and you'll be back to normal. Things like that happen to all of us. I sure you'll get the old tractor running just fine as well. Take care and thanks for the video

Enjoyed the video, looking forward to the next one. Love those old tractors. They’re finicky, but they have a lot of character.

Get the Robert’s Carburetor videos (2). There’s a lot of little holes that need cleaning. Miss Rachael missed one or two in her video. She’s still pretty awesome in her work. Check out the screen in the sediment bowl. The float setting should be about 3/8” from the top of the bowl.

Theres an adjustment on the rod from the carb to governor that affects the idle surge you have. Disconnect the rod at the carb, then Pull the throttle lever all the way back. When the carb is at idle the end of the rod should be a half hole off. You should have to pull the rod forward against the spring pressure to get it in the hole. If it just drops in the hole it will surge at idle. You can google this procedure. Its listed on a lot of JD forums. Your governor isnt sticking. It worked just fine when you hit the shed. If it was stuck, the engine would stall every time you engage the clutch in gear or try to drive through a shed(sorry couldnt help it). I have a 46 B, 51 BN and a 40 A. Have done the same things you have done and had the same issues. Good luck!

Cool old tractor. Between the random range/shift and the PTOs spinning on each side it looks absolutely deadly!

I’am not a regular . I dropped in when you first brought the JD home . Assuming the carb is good ,ignition is fine - Try disconnecting the air supply and pull direct to atmosphere . I do appreciate you bringing me along .

Yes I tried that. No luck there. Thanks for the comment!

I'd Look closely at the governor. I don't believe it's allowing the throttle full range movement

Sorry about the damage to your shop, I expected it to be a lot worse the way the tractor jumped when it hit. Thankfully you didn't get hurt. Metal siding can be repaired or replaced.

Luckily I happen to have some extra panels of the same exact stuff. Yes, it could have been worse. Thanks.

Alway love the videos, I wish I had the time to edit and publish more of my own content. The governor may be missing a tensioner spring? I don’t speak green tractor very well but the red and gray ones typically have some sort of spring buffering the throttle butterfly movement.

Yes, I probably spend 6-7 hours on a 30 minute video in transferring, editing, and uploading. Thank you.

Sorry to see that your machine shed got damaged. At least the tractor’s transmission works. Hope you get figure out what’s wrong and get the tractor running right.

My John Deere AW does the same thing. Pulsing... I have been told that something isn't clean in the carburetor, but i went through that carb like six times.. every orifice.. i suspect a warn governor as well. interested to see what you come up with.

I'm thinking you may have a governor problem. One other thing I would like to mention. You make me nervous as heck walking behind that tractor while it's running and fiddling with it. When I'm working on my tractors, I never stand behind them when running and I always block the wheels. I know it's difficult working around those big tires, but please take precautions. Speaking of working on tractors, I need to work on one of mine this weekend. The hydraulic pump isn't working to lift the bucket. At least I think that's the problem. I haven't investigated yet. I'll figure it out tomorrow, it may just be the coupler from the front PTO shaft to the pump. It came loose before.🤷

The nut that holds the bowl on there’s a spring above it that holds the emulsion tube did you remove that and clean it?

Broken spring in magneto?
@Bus2000
@Bus2000 4 месяца назад
Maybe the spark from the magneto is not strong enough or the spark is getting bad on higher rpm.

It's falling flat on its face at idle. It fires off on the first hit. Not spark.

I know I'm walking into the middle of a project. I have only watched this video. All that smoke from the compression release and the exhaust. Oil or fuel? It looks fuel to me. How full is the crankcase? More than one person has put five gallons of fuel into the crankcase because of a stuck float. I didn't see you adjust the low speed needle. My theory is your low speed circuit is either set wrong or functioning wrong. Idle drops, governor calls for throttle. Power circuit dumps fuel. You get a hunting idle. I believe your governor is fine. I believe your timing is fine. Glad you are ok. There are only about four people I will let run any of my hand clutch machines. Aluminum backed duct tape makes for a good temporary patch until you can replace the panels. You would not be the first person to back through a wall and get folded over the steering wheel possibly breaking ribs or worse.
@AntiqueCarsandStuff

I did try adjusting the low speed needle, but I don't know about the crankcase. That is a good thought. Yes, that was fuel coming out the compression valves. I will check that. Thank you.
@ShainAndrews

@@AntiqueCarsandStuff When you screw the low speed valve in... does it have any effect on the engine? If you have no fuel control you found your problem. I have seen instances where a carb has no jets in it... and the engine still runs. Is that a multi fue machine?
