That's the real fun, bringing them back to life! I can still remember being as little as that girl watching my elders work on ancient cars like that. I remember how cool it was. It was like watching someone work on a space ship! Along with the beer drinking, and the grill going, us kids playing and watching. We all had fun. Family, friends, neighbors' and even the dog was hanging around. Great memories!

From experience with getting old cars running that have sat unused for many years, there is no way I'd start one without pulling the oil pan and cleaning it first.

There is no starter button under the foot pedal. When the accelerator is depressed the linkage closes, by way of a cam, a switch that is attached to the carburetor (vacuum switch). That switch starts the car. As soon as vacuum is created by the running engine a piston is pulled up a cylinder attached to the switch. This movement opens the switch and turns off the circuit to the solenoid and the cranking stops. I may not have it perfect but that is the general idea.

@hyzercreek
@hyzercreek 6 лет назад
You mean radiator, right?
@tarstarkusz
@tarstarkusz 6 лет назад
It's still going into the engine. I suppose it's not that bad because when the car heats up for the first time when started, the thermostat opens and allows ice cold anti-freeze into the block. Nevertheless, it's still not a great idea to do this.

There are pictures with a very young me in front of a same period Buick Sedanette (?). Evidently it was equipped with a DynaFlow or Hydromatic transmission which always leaked. With my mother carrying what would be my little brother,the decision would be to trade the Buick for a 4-door Hudson Hornet with sun visor. Narragansett Bay.

That's pretty cool, glad to see he had the hose in the engine coolant thermostat to protect the engine. I noticed you had a hood ornament similar to one I've had hanging on the wall in my garage for years. It looks similar to yours, but it doesn't have the bullet looking piece in the middle, it's just a large ring with two smaller ones inside that. Using that information I looked up Buick Hood Ornaments and found out it's a 1957. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

@4:14, exactly the warmer firewall vent!....just pulled "anything" engine compartment heat, smoke, carbon-dioxide, burn-off directly into the cabin....and reduce the firewall effect....what a wonderful idea for the 1940's....and i'm not being sarcastic...I actually like and approve of it. We're too stiffy today on regulations. I want a firewall warmer vent in my new car!
@tomtransport
@tomtransport 11 месяцев назад
This is old but I have to comment on all the disinformation. The glass bottle he said was for brake fluid is actually the Windshield washer fluid reservoir but did work by vacuum. There was no button under the gas pedal. The linking from the gas pedal to the carburetor started the car, there was a switch out on the carb. that closed and put electric from the battery to the starter motor when you depressed the gas pedal to the floor. After starting vacuum from the running engine kept the switch from closing again. There were two heaters and two blowers in the car, they used hot water from the motor. One was in the dash for defrosting/defogging the windshield the other was under the passenger seat for heating the interior of the car. Of course both could be used to heat the interior. What he pointed out as a heater was actually a sealed tube that ran all the way to just behind the front grille. This tube used a connection tube that has deteriorated over time and is missing. That's the reason we can see the engine compartment from the interior of the car. If used as this guy said every driver would have died from carbon monoxide and other gases. You best close them when in traffic so not to draw exhaust from car in front of you. They could be opened for fresh air while driving on the open road in the summer though. There was one on each side. The rust he says (rusted out) is nothing more than surface rust on steel that the paint has worn off on. Rusted out would be rust "perforation" I saw very little "rust out". The floor plate he pointed to covered access to the master brake cylinder so you could add brake fluid when needed. I'm glad he sold it, from his description of items in this video he don't know this car from his elbow.

That’s a beautiful car. She needs some paint abc a few small touch ups, then she’ll be really nice. I hope whoever gets this car leaves the engine and interior. So many old car engines and interiors are taken out. I’ve got a huge soft spot for antique/ vintage cars left as original as possible.

Buicks were some of the best cars ever built, up until very recently. Today's models look like junk. GM was very good at state of the art engineering, styling and new innovations to the point of their models being new and fresh looking for years to come, so long as the owners took care of them. Old Buicks and Chevs almost always turn my head. Not so much with Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs.

I guess people took better care of their cars back then & would have attended to an exhaust leak as soon as it happened. The idea would never fly today, mind, but that was a different era.
