My 1948 Farmall H ran "OK", but required about 3/4 choke in order to do so. Taking advantage of a nice day outside, I decided to do some basic carburetor cleaning without purchasing a rebuild kit.

these valve guides seem slow to leak, so the smoke more than likely is the rings, but, shoot, after it runs a while, they may clean up in the ring grooves, and stop smoking. I never saw you pull out the idle jet, but you got whatever was blocked.

Have you ever had the underload adjustment screw back out after use?

Hi Paul, yes, I have. You may need a rebuild kit with fresh needle valves and seats to give that tighter fit. That's the only thing that comes to mind for me. You may find some additional videos on this subject from @Kenny Kizzle.

The old girl sounds good now great job! I just pick up a old H $350 drove it home. I can't find the year the only numbers stamped on the tag under serial number is 85639 and next to that is the model H . I looked all over the net and can't find anything with that number but I do see the same tag as the one on my H. If anyone could help me ID this tractor it would be a big help..thanks

Sounds like a 1941 H to me based on those numbers. $350 is a great deal!! Be proud of that one!

We are attempting to revive a dead H. With the high fuel prices The M's guzzle too much fuel. We have a 3 cyl JD however its engine is actually larger than the M's and it dont have a PTO or three point lift/

I agree, the H is very fuel efficient when compared to the M. I have an M also, which you may have seen in my other videos. It sure drinks a lot. Good luck on your H. Hopefully it doesn't take too much to get it going. Maybe it just needs a basic tuneup!
