Sweet truck. I once drove a 55 KW 825 that was stretched with late model KW air ride rears. Had a 220 Cummins without a Jake. Was originally a 4 x 4 Spicer transmission setup but the main box was switched to a 10 speed Road Ranger. Glad I didn't have to shift a two stick since I had no experience at that. Sure wish it had a turbo. No power pulling the grades on I-70 east bound from Delta to Denver Colorado. Drove it for a friend who passed away from cancer so his nephew could get it in Brighton Colorado.
Great old kenworth. 49er. Same year I was born. Great to see someone take pride in a family owned rig. You have my respect going with correct period rebuild. Cummins is smooth as silk and has that trademark moan. Good luck.
The sound of that ol Cummins is music to my ears!! The sound when you revved it up a little was pure pulling power! Love that ol truck! If I were you I'd keep it the colour it is and clear coat it! It would look awsome like that!
That is one nice old KW! Maaaan, I don’t know if I could bring myself to repaint that truck, the rot free patina takes a good 50 years to get that perfect! Either way sir, I’m looking forward to seeing progress updates on this ole girl. Thanks for sharing!😎🤙🏻
That truck is so cool! She has so much character I feel it'd be a sin to repaint it, however I'm sure she'll look good when you get her done. I the brownie box behind the 13 speed I think that's just really cool. Thanks for sharing.
Damn, that thing is super cool! I've been driving for over 30 yrs. And would love to have a piece of history like that. Crazy cool that it has the family history. I'm digging your vision for the old girl. Good luck with the build. Hope the money holds out so you can see it through. I subscribed so I can keep up with your progress. Thanks for the video.
Restored a 1965 needle nose Pete IN the 90s. Originally had a Cummins 262 with a 5 spd and 3 spd rears 4spring sus updated. To a 400 Cummins and 10 spd left 3spd hooked up.used it for about 10 years, wished I still had it.
Good video, love the kw's . Got two in my fleet of two. But really love the classics. So much so got a 48 Ford 8n and a 53 b4c dodge. Keep the old iron running!
Nice old lady!!! Interior is beautiful!! Fires up better than most Cummins! Worst thing they ever did, was getting rid of the decompression lever!!! I've got an N14 in one truck, always cranks hard..
@@jordanlesamiz4599 you are welcome! It's ok.. best way to ruin a good 855, put a computer on it and make it full electronic.. but it's ok.. got a 3406B in another truck, it's better, in my opinion. Only electronic thing is the governor, everything else is mechanical.
It’s a beauty ! All that patina from age is a badge of honour. If I might suggest one thing, I’d loose the oil bath air cleaner. You’d be doing your fresh engine a favour. Thanks for posting
Yup that needle nose has a distinctive look. Like you always say, “little by little”👍 I’m really looking forward to hauling my 1st load of cows with it! Unfortunately a lot of the airlines have to go before it’s safe.
Did you ever get it finished. A great looking piece of history. I can’t find anything like that here in the south. Make a video on it show what’s done after a year.
Know exactly what that is drove 1952 and 1953 Kenworth 220 five speed main box four speed brownie for Eldon Graves in Yakima ran one down to Salem ore one night yeah all night to get there!!! Had the walking beam suspension at Beattie and Sanger logging in Wiley city. In the old Cummins used to put in couple bottles of transmission fluid keeps injectors clean also good running 220 would put out over foot of flame out the exhaust!!!!!
The trucks as old as me and looks whole lot better. I like the way it looks know, it shows what’s it’s done all its life and riding with you in later videos takes me back to when boy riding with my uncle when trucks sounded like trucks fwiw👌
My personal thoughts, it looks absolutely perfect as it is. It takes a good 50 years for them to get looking that good. An old truck just does not look right with new paint. Id finish the enigne paint, paint the frame, convert to a non oil bath filter setup, maybe even a straight grille. Swaping out the rear for an 80's KW 8 bag would be the only other thing I would consider. Awesome truck, thanks for sharing. Im sure youll get some good views if you put up some driving vids.
Thanks for the feedback! I have a nice set of 8 bag Pete rears I could put in, but I honestly don’t mind the rear ends. They track well and on goods roads are really smooth. I agree with you on everything else!
So now you have a thirteen double over three. I’m glad you left the browny in. That extra tranny will be your theft deterrent system. And be sure to take care of the tower the shifter is sitting on. Keep it greased. Will you be mounting a sleeper on the truck?
That is a great question......anything that has needed to be replaced on mine I have made new parts work. I am currently running mine full time so some updating has been a must. Anything you are after in particular?
I am needing a radiator cap. It sits about 3 inches lower the the hood and has a metal tube coming out of the radiator so not sure what I need. And battery box cover but a guy can fan that easy enough but would like to find something original. I am also wondering if there was a neck on the radiator that stuck up through the hood if so may need a new radiator
Sorry for not getting back to you, I don’t really know where to source parts for these things. Every time something fails or breaks on mine I upgrade it with a new part. Because ultimately, my goal is to use this thing and use it hard. Some of them old parts aren’t worth going back to🤷♂️
Just brought my 63 "home" to eastern washington. Would love to get these two together for a drive somewhere! I'm military so I don't make it out that way too often, but maybe we could work something out?
Great video about a great truck! I'm a model builder and would like to build one of these early Kenworths. Unfortunately, here in Germany - and also on the English-speaking Internet - I can't find important reference values for this. Are you able to identify three measurements that I need? I would need the width of the cab at the back, the overall width of the vehicle at the height of the front fenders and the height of the doors. I am thankful for every help!
People like you are the reason that I haven't completely lost faith in humanity. You would really do me a big favor! How can I show my gratitude? Name the model after you? @@jordanlesamiz4599
I don't want to seem rude, but can I ask about the dimensions again? I wouldn't bother you if there was another option. Unfortunately I don't have them here in Germany. Thank you for your effort!@@jordanlesamiz4599
I would buy it repaint it the same color, swap in a Cummins KTA19 add all Alcoa wheels, Dule 7inch stacks, a 18speed gearbox, alot of lights & alot of other goodies😁👍🤙
Love this truck and your project. It would look great to just clear coat it and paint the frame. Interior is most excellent. Take a look at ru-vid.com, he has a Peterbilt and two Kenworths restorations in progress. I am now subscribed and await the transformation!!
I would go down to the record and get a wrecked truck crook and cut the back off of it and splash it on this one I would go like I say and get a new clip for the back and arrive everything Is this brakes new rims and tires yet the new refrain yep yep I would have the frame sand blasted in Pan I would put a Air ride suspension under the front Then I would leave it alone I would drive the dog a dog nookie out of it
