As a Michigander, yeah, that sounds about right for stuff getting mailed. Either that reflects a trust in our mail system, or a complete disregard of consequences, and I am not sure which.

Honestly, it could have come from anywhere. We've all gotten these sorts of packages at some point. The thing is the seller is definitely not a noob. 16K sales and 100% feedback, so they know what they are doing. Just not when it comes to expensive comics, it seems. I wasn't in any way mad, I was just amazed. I've seen USPS fold manila envelopes in half and just cram them them in a mailbox plenty of times. You can stamp Do Not Bend all over it, and it won't matter. These folks have a route to finish.

Gotta ship it with a piece of thin plywood
@GodLovesComics
@GodLovesComics 2 месяца назад
Yeah that would work. I literally had a comic sent to me on a sheet a metal before. So it really was bullet proof packaging. Not the most feasible in terms of shipping expense however. I even made a video of it.

Would thick cardboard be better? What if the thin plywood snaps and spiky parts scratch or leave indents on the cover

I bought an anime cel off ebay before and it was just shipped in an envelope. Made a comment on the shop only about the bad packaging. They asked why i did the bad review. I said, “Every other shop that sells cels at the very least has sandwiched them between rigid cardboard. This came in a thin cardboard mailing envelope from overseas. Some sellers even fold extra corrugated cardboard tightly around the sandwiched pieces.”
@GodLovesComics
@GodLovesComics Месяц назад
Yeah, I didn't leave them a bad review. The comic was fully returnable. I just told them that it was incredibly "risky" packaging for any collectible. They were primarily a toy store, but anyone who has ever sent anything by mail would surely know they were taking a crazy leap of faith sending it the way they did.

"Do not bend worked!" 😅 Yikes, dodged a bullet. This may be the first time that worked.
@GodLovesComics

I wrote "PLEASE DO NOT BEND~Thanks!" Back when I sent stuff in manila envelopes, or even Priority, but still always between stiff cardboard. But yeah, if it works with no backing at all it ain't because it worked. It's because we all got hella lucky ;)

I spent over $100 on a Superman 199 on ebay, and aside from the polypropylene sleeve it was in (which was yellowed, dusty, and looked as old as the comic itself) it was shipped the exact same way. I was PISSED!
@GodLovesComics
@GodLovesComics 10 дней назад
Yeah it's odd that people take such chances. I understand that on Ebay some are new and/or comics are not what they know (although they seem to know how to look up prices;). My comic came from a very experienced toy retailer, who surely had shipped comics before.

Yeah, I mean a lot of hands are touching it. Like I told someone else, I wasn't mad. This isn't a piece of OA. But it is a Golden Age book and I was just amazed the seller has so much experience and a flawless Feedback record and just rolled the dice on this one.

@@travisperkins9920 Ha! I had original art commissioned from an artist in Italy (Alessandro Vitti) and he said their post was "very poor with handling" and he wasn't kidding! The box I received looked like it'd been dragged behind the truck! Fortunately, he sandwiched the art inside plastic, between two thick sheets of particle board and bubble wrapped that! It was all perfect, in spite of the post!

Honestly not the worst mailing I've seen. I've seen a laptop posted in a laptop bag which the label just stuck to the bag, and a wine bottle just wrapped in paper, with no box or bubble wraps. I've seen numerous 'Do Not Bend' items jammed into small postboxes and bent all out of shape before we've even had a chance to collect them. Never underestimate peoples' inability to properly pack things.

@@TheTroubleTrombleys Your "understanding" is severely corroded then. The "shi*ty comic" is an EC masterpiece with some of the finest artists to ever work in comics (but I'm pretty sure your idea of good work is a little different than anyone who knows better). And the comic was never in "great condition." It's maybe a 4.0 and arrived in exactly the condition I saw in the photos. You don't seem to comprehend that I wasn't mad about the packaging, just amazed they took that chance. But then again you clearly don't understand very many things.
@TheTroubleTrombleys
@TheTroubleTrombleys Месяц назад
From what my understanding of criticism is. You definitely criticized the hell out of the sender. Which in turn made me think you were bitching about the package. So I can only go off your word now if you say you weren’t but the video gave off another impression.
@GodLovesComics
@GodLovesComics Месяц назад
@@TheTroubleTrombleys I didn't mention their name, I didn't say they did a terrible job (just that the packaging was a crapshoot) and I didn't say the comic was damaged in any way. In other words I didn't fictionalize any complaint. I expressed my amazement (and amusement) that a clearly professional store with 100% Feedback would put so much faith in the mail. I left them a 5 Star review and only commented that the "packaging was very risky" which it was. The idea that anyone, even a very small number of people commenting would be so wildly defensive about that boggles the mind. Happy trails.

What did you pay for shipping? I just got a book, not especially old but certainly rare. Seller was in California and came to the central U.S. and cost me $15. Manilla envelope with a sheet of cardboard to back it but not even sandwich it. Didn't come in any way that was particularly worthwhile wasn't insured. Where did the $15 shipping fee come from? Nothing. Book was fine, thankfully but I think it was missing a few inserts that it would have included new which sucks, but what can you do. Just make sure to leave feedback that reflects that. Bought a bunch of things from a guy, didn't combine shipping, so base price for each item and then an additional $5 each in shipping. Came crammed in a large paper envelope, no padding. Left feedback that reflected this to a reply saying how they were a veteran and this is how they help supplement their income. Perhaps. But when I spend $50 in shipping for items that don't weigh a single pound, you can either refund some of that to maybe let me buy more or, splurge for a box with padding.
@GodLovesComics
@GodLovesComics Месяц назад
I paid the Standard Mail price. Really it's up to Sellers to charge whatever amount is needed to ship the book safely. $15 for the shipping you got is definitely a rip off. When I see a price like that, or no offer for Combined I will message them and ask if they mind using Media Mail and/or combining. In this case of course I still left the Seller 5-star feedback, I just mentioned that the packaging was "really risky" for any comic but especially a collectable.
