Today I'm working on a vintage reflective lantern.
I bought it on Ebay for 20 $.
The original battery is missing and the plastic diffuser is broken
It took me 15 days to restore, watch till the end to see this beautiful old lanter in action in the dark.
Thanks a lot for watching !

It looks a little like a WWII era submarine light. Like from the interior of a U-boat. So maybe something naval (French obviously)?

That’s a very interesting lantern. Never seen one like that. I actually like how you improvised with the diffuser at the end there. And going for a candle glass was a smart move because it’s already designed to handle high heat. So it wouldn’t shatter when you baked on the paint. Honestly, I would love to have that little lantern hanging in my workshop. But yeah.

Some LEDs will break when powered on reverse polarity, and so the only thing I would recommend you add, is a diode in series with the lamp. Other than that, very well done. I especially liked your solution for replacing the red lens 😀

The glass cutter normally has a ball on the back where it is used to lightly tap where the cut has just been made to finish cutting, most of the time it comes off perfect, My father usually cuts mirrors and it really works. ☝🏽❤️

I'm not 100% certain, but it seems like the reflective coating on the back was part of a primitive 'retroreflector'. Which means that through the geometry it reflects the light straight back to the source instead of bouncing off at the same angle of incidence. By replacing it with a flat piece of aluminium you probably lose this, which makes it _much_ less noticeable as a reflector. Great restoration nonetheless

Groovy, baby! So, you got yourself a vintage reflective lantern, huh? Looks like it's been through a few battles, just like me. Bet it's seen its fair share of dark nights and creepy corners. Missing battery, broken diffuser... sounds like it's been through the wringer. But hey, nothing a little elbow grease and chainsaw action can't fix, am I right? Took you 15 days to restore? That's dedication, pal. I respect that. Can't wait to see this bad boy in action, lighting up the darkness like a beacon of hope in a world gone mad. Thanks for sharing your restoration journey with us. Now, excuse me while I go battle some deadites and save the world... again. Keep on fighting the good fight, and remember, hail to the king, baby!

Amazing, as always. Thanks for showing us the times when everything didn't go exactly according to plan, and how you dealt with that. It's a shame the light doesn't come out of the six round bits at the top. What are they there for? Oh, and I assume the springs are to stop the glass from breaking if the light bumps against something?

That sandblasting was some of the most beautiful I had ever seen. Would it have been possible to split the batteries up - two on each side - to give better weight balance to the lantern? I saw it tilting to one side when you picked it up in the end, so I was curious if that would help.

I had seen your channel recommended as I watch several other channels like this one and held off watching, but boy was I missing out. A really nice creation/restoration. I love that you used "new" methods to create a product that is actually better than the original in many ways. My question is this: You used a red LED bulb and a red diffuser, right? My physics tell me that a red bulb should be absorbed by the red diffuser and the light will be white. Right? :) Anyway, thanks for your content.
