It’s so exciting to see that you’ve gotten to this point! Hearing you say it’s been a year since you packed up from LA made me realize it’s been a year since I WATCHED you pack up in LA and wow… the time has flown. It’s been such a lovely escape and also so inspiring to watch your journey. I’ve been impressed with how patient and present you’ve been through all these transitions, and I’m happy that the two of you can finally unpack and fully nest in your beautiful space. Cheers!

So good to hear your view on the renovation shows, as a tradesman it bothers me the way they portray all reno work as being simple, and downplay the difficulties encountered. This leads to clients often thinking they are being ripped of by trades as the work being quoted is "so easy". Doing it yourself is a great way to be able to really appreciate the outcome. Looking forward to seeing your choice of artwork to set everything off. Youve timed it well to be able to enjoy a bit if a break over Xmas, and you deserve it. Take care of yourselves, and enjoy the break.

Good job, you two. Loved your use of "decanter" for the watering can! Good luck with netting the cherry tree. Ours is now too large to net, even from tall stepladders, so it is now the kereru "restaurant", with our blessing.

In Australia we call the sleep out a "granny flat" - like a flat/apartment that your grandma would live in at the back of your house
@robinhoward4204
@robinhoward4204 2 года назад
In Australia a "sleepout" usually meant a porch or verandah used for sleeping, (mainly in summer with mosquito nets) but part of the main house. We would call your sleepout a granny flat.
@MissSeaworld8
@MissSeaworld8 2 года назад
Haha granny flat :P never heard that before! Here in Norway we just call it a guesthouse or shed. We don't have a good name for it.

Granny flat works in NZ as well but would normally be part of the main building. Sleepout here definitely implies a separate small building.
@robinhoward4204
@robinhoward4204 2 года назад
@@MarkMcLT Granny flats can be part of a main house as well. My dad actually built a house with one attached. I think the term become looser over time, when people would do up a shed or cabin in their yards and make them self sufficient, then rent them out for a bit of income.

Fab job you two ✨ Feeling very sentimental right now. My parents bought a 1929 wooden (Kauri tree) launch over 20 years ago, she was half sunken, covered in bird poop, unloved and filled with rubbish. They spent years of late nights and weekends bringing her back to life. Sanding, varnishing, painting, re-fitting the whole inside but still keeping her looking like the wooden navy boat she was originally used as and they recently sold her. We bawled our eyes out but it was time for a new family to enjoy her. I feel like after all the work you've done to your home, you'll have a sense of connection like we did with our boat, making her sparkle again. So much heart, sweat and tears goes into it all but so worth it in the end ❤ oh and we also call sleepouts, granny flats in Aotearoa xx

Just beautiful how the floors turned out. Loving the couch. Just a tip for when you do the tiling for the fire place, be sure to protect the wood floors around it as they can get stained and damaged and you would have to sand and painted again. Be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪

You guys are doing an amazing job on your home. My husband and I are DIYers and we’ve done just about everything ourselves on several full home remodels. We still miss-calculate how long it’s going to take us. Now I multiply times three or four the time we think it will take, which is usually more accurate. Just be careful not too get so deeply involved that you forget to take time for yourselves to step away and have fun. Also to just live in your home and enjoy it between projects. Otherwise your relationship may suffer and you will get burned out and start losing your joy and excitement for your beautiful property. It’s going to be absolutely amazing when you get finished, no matter when that is! Best wishes to you and Alex, and Merry Christmas!

The floors look lovely. Timber floors are worth doing properly the first time. You did a great job. I remember the dust when we did ours nearly 30 years ago in a home in Australia, we taped up the windows and doors to the other rooms with thick clear plastic to try to minimize the dust. But it was still so dusty. Looks like you are enjoying New Zealand, we moved here from Australia 3 years ago and we are loving it here too. New things to get used to, but all good things.
