Very cute. The kangaroo pouch needs to make a grand comeback

As someone who has been pregnant twice during the colder months, I found it was easiest to just add warm layers to otherwise too cold items. Buy a pair of fleece lined maternity leggings to wear under dresses, skirts etc and use cardigans that can be worn open on top that way you could still do your summer ideas but not freeze. Also folding a sweater so it is worn cropped with high waisted maternity bottoms is another way to wear the sweater if it fits on top but not over the bump. Another thing you could consider doing is summer dress ideas but just in winter fabrics. Flannel is warm but not much heavier than quilting cotton, so it might work for certain ideas (obviously some swaps simply won't work)

Yeah. Would think so. I do that with most of my wardrobe not pregnant as well. The coat when walk outside migth be a issue. Depending how much the tummy grows. But cloths for summer spring with added layers must be easist. Atleast in her winter temps. My hometown had -35 c last week and apperntly get it back now and that make go outside pregnant really tricky

@@AnniCarlssonSeraphine Maternity has awesome winter coats. The pockets are big enough to hold a liter of water, and they’re furry lined. It has a zipper panel that can be added for late pregnancy or used for baby wearing. Large enough to accommodate pregnancy but small enough to wear after baby is born.

@@megankuchta9145 I bought myself a belly extender for my existing coat and I highly recommend it - you can then use it for babywearing after the fact, it's not cheap but much cheaper than a brand new coat, and can be passed on very easily!

The kangaroo skirt is a brilliant idea!!! I've seen some skirts that use a firmer material in a pencil skirt, but the kangaroo pouch area has a stretch fabric sewn in to it, so you get coverage and warmth, but your bump can grow.

Oh, so cute. My first baby is a year old now but I wish I saw this when I was still pregnant. Love the content Lucy, I have been watching since we were both teens. Long time ago now 😂.

I was pregnant four times over the winter period. Granted, the temperatures on the South African Highveld are not a low as in Europe but I was able to dress warmly and economically at home and in a medical professional job (in the times before scrubs were worn). My handmade capsule wardrobe consisted of pants, skirts (with stretch panel instead of a kangaroo pouch) and two pinafores. I wore blouses (and my husband's button-up shirts) under the pinafores and left buttons open as my bump grew. Wore shirts, blouses and sweaters over the skirt/pants. My husband's white button up shirts worked very well as the body is looser than my blouses. Teamed with a scarf it worked as a very professional look (appropriate stockings and shoes). Leggings were not fashionable nor freely available those years. Best of all was that I was able to easily wear some of the items post birth until my body returned ro normal.

I made this style skirt in the 80's. The Big 4 sold patterns for skirts and pants made this way, and inserts made especially for use in this type of design were sold in fabric stores. I loved the skirts because I was able to have a sleek(er) silhouette.

My mother wore those Types of skirts in the 50s during her pregnancies. You may want to think about allowing for the growth of your hips, too. They make pregnancy panels to sew in your skirts too.

Cute skirts. You won’t believe how big a belly can get. Wish you a healthy safe delivery. When my mom was pregnant at times between 1957 & 1970 the kangaroo pouch was filled in with stretchy fabric. When I was pregnant in the late 1980’s we had the choice of the stretch front or expanding snap closure. Mine had three on each side.

I was pregnant in the late ‘70’s and the kangaroos pouch was covered with a very stretchy fabric instead of needing a tie. Very comfortable. Also, I had a denim jumper that I wore very often and I found it useful, comfortable and good looking. It wasn’t enormously wide, but fit me well, even to the end of my twin pregnancy! Another possible sewing project?!

Congrats, this looks amazing ! I hope you have the happiest pregnancy ! If you do this style of skirt again, I might suggest having seams on the sides rather than the front (especially with a patterned fabric). I would help you shaping the skirt snug around the hips, with a nicer and flatter front. Also, you might want to consider putting two small darts on either sides of the back seam, it would make the back fit really nice. But again, for a self-drafted skirt without any real patterning, it looks really good. The most important is for you to feel good and beautiful in it, because you are :)

You could use a draw string for the waist instead of elastic. I have a small waist and large hips.. adding a draw string to the waist of pants and skirts has been a game changer and doesn't add bulk.

I really enjoy that you always share your thought process and all the problem solving one encounters while sewing 😊 I was pregnant mostly during summer so I never really thought about the clothing issues in winter, but you are solving it brilliantly 🤗

Cute skirts. Well done. I wonder if a dart on either side of the back seam might have also been an option. Perhaps distributing the dart would change how the fabric lays.

You can add a knit fabric or even thermal one into the kangaroo pouch area as in modern maternity clothing and don`t worry about the length of your sweater. Anyway, you look adorable in both skirts.

You might try using d rings on the ties. It may remove the bulk of tieing a bow there. May also work on the petticoat style skirt you previously made.

I believe you said you are planning to breastfeed. Finding breastfeeding friendly clothing has definitely been a challenge for me. Dresses are impossible unless they are a shirt dress or a wrap style. Time is definitely short during the first few months, so maybe you could make a few breastfeeding friendly items before your new arrival? I admire you doing this. My entire maternity wardrobe was off the rack stretchy items from H&M!

Seraphine Maternity and Loyal Hannah both make tops and dresses with zippers from the shoulder to the underbust. They’re pricey though. I splurged on one dress and lived in it.

@@megankuchta9145 My daughter is 3 now, and I've recently been able to start wearing my normal clothes again. I'm still breastfeeding her, but only morning and night. It was great to get my old clothes out of storage so I could wear them! Sadly not everything fits anymore, but on the upside it meant some shopping trips 😁 I hope one day soon I'll have the time to start sewing again.

I love how you wore the first skirt throughout the rest of the video! Proof of concept, and it looks so comfy and cute. I definitely struggled with my second pregnancy being in the winter and finding clothes that kept me warm. I also had very little energy to actually sew, and didn't get to make as many maternity outfits as I had planned. I really wanted to try one of these 50s pencil skirt styles, mostly just as a curiosity? Because they just looked so odd on the pattern illustrations! I didn't think they would be at all comfortable, but I'm glad to be proven wrong! The plaid one turned out super cute, too!

Wonderful idea to make the retro 1950s kangaroo skirt and the easy to pull on sweater skirt. You might want to make another kangaroo skirt that's a bit wider for even more comfort down the line. Looking good!

I love the kangaroo skirt! I wish I had caught the sewing bug before pregnancy, so I could have sewn one for myself! The exposed belly looks comfy. I love high-waisted bottoms but when pregnant, I hated the feeling of any bottoms on the belly (especially the ribbed stretchy material they usually put in maternity jeans). I wore mainly dresses or non-maternity joggers pulled below the bump. Luckily, although my belly was enormous, I carried almost all of the weight there or in the boobs, so the pants fit my hips and legs :)

I was pregnant twice in the 90s. I hated the horizontal stripes. There was a drop waist style that went under the bump. My stretch fabric top never went back to normal after the baby. It turned out that there was a population bulge with my first baby and I couldn't find cute clothes and later diapers. I don't remember why I didn't make some.

Happy for you that you've added two outfits. But, please, look into some pattern drafting courses (skillshare... 😁) Both could have been made just as quick and simple but so much better. It is such a shame that the check skirt has a seam in the front, because of the pattern. If you have some basic knowledge you can then build upon it.. It would make your sewing life easier and the garments look less home made.

There is something about this comment that makes me so angry. Loepsie is out here, a young woman putting her face, name, thoughts and dreams out on the internet for all to see, clearly enjoying and revelling in this beautiful phase of life she’s currently in, nesting and making home for herself and her growing child. And then along comes you. Telling her her clothes “look home made.” And that the brown skirt is “a waste”? Since when is it a bad thing that something looks home made? Who’s out here trying to make their handmade clothes look like they were made in a sweat factory in China? And who is it exactly that the brown skirt is wasted on? You? Cos it certainly isn’t Loepsie - she’s delighted with it and delighted with life right now. Oh. Is that it? She is out here showing the world she’s delighted with life and you just can’t handle it? Cos honestly, I can’t think of a single other reason for posting such a mean-spirited comment. And before you try and save face, your passive aggressiveness is loud and clear, so don’t bother 🙄
