I'm a sucker for a hot rod project, and these two classic Pontiac Chieftan's caught my eye when I saw them on the side of the road in a rural town close to where I live. I had to have them!
These mid 50s Pontiac's are so cool because there are a little bit different from your standard 50s Chevies and Fords. They are much more rare to see on the road or at your local car show. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with these cars yet, but I have some great ideas. The 1953 Pontiac has perfect Patina and I could see it getting a new chassis, a modern LS engine, slammed to the ground, and it being setup as a restomod hot rod cruiser. The 1954 Pontiac is sweet too, and I'm pretty sure I can get the inline 8 cylinder engine running again. This one might be a great candidate for a restoration. There are so many possibilities.
What would you do with these cars? Wire and fire and drive them like they are? Concourse restoration? Slam em and bag em? Let me know in the comments!

Hi there!! I just found you!! I just love these big, ole cars!! I have a 1950 Pontiac Chieftain, exactly like the green one in the video (that seafoam green sure was Pontiac's fave!!☺), but my grill was all chrome and like teeth😁. And I want her, Christine, on the road again. She was my first car that I paid $200 w/ my paycheck from McD's in late 1986. So I'll be watching and learning!!

@@ClassicNation well the straight 8 is stuck so I'm thinking 454/5speed out of a wrecked obs dually. But I want it to stay rough looking as is and just be a cruiser. Being a highschool kid on a small budget it's going to take awhile before she sees the road again but I'm determined to have it going before winter

I'm planning to get Christine running, rusty and all, and keep her all original. In your case, I would restore the green one and hot rod the other. Whichever has the most parts to it, restore original, and have fun customizing the other (lowrider)!!☺

That'll make her jump. I have a 292 with a 4 speed in my 53 Catalina (2700 series, like these ones), but the 4 speed is automatic - a 700R4. How is the project coming along?

Where's a good place to find parts? We have a54 that we need parts for, specifically turn signal covers, new to the game
@stephenandloriyoung5716
@stephenandloriyoung5716 3 года назад
Pontiac Oakland Club International's publication Smoke Signals may well have parts source information for you. Their renowned 53 Pontiac expert, Charles Coker, has been very helpful to me with technical information and parts location. He's had his 53 Custom Catalina since 1973, and the 54s have a lot in common with 53s.. Rock Auto lists some parts, but I don't think turn signal covers (lenses?) will show up there. Welcome to "the game", and best wishes for much enjoyment with your "Sweetheart of the Silver Streaks." (I got that phrase from a magazine ad.)
