I spent hours as a kid with my friend Craig as his dad dragged us around the lake hanging on to a truck innertube tied to about 30 feet of rope behind one of those on a 12 foot Sears aluminum boat.
It supposed to piss out the exhaust but they route it to make sure the waterpump is working, we had two of them back in the 70s and that was the first thing dad did. Love them ole motors thanks
Went stronger than I expected. Idles so low too. Almost on the plane. Pee hole not standard. They spray straight down. Saw one on another video. Lovely little outboard. ❤
The factory tell-tale is a port on the fitting just behind and slightly below the idle mixture adjustment. When you spin the motor around for reverse, it dribbles on the top of the transom bracket and rolls off the back. Very little or nothing would drip in the boat. There’s also ports drilled in the shaft housing just above the trim adjustment wingnut and bolt, which is exhaust relief and water discharge. When the motor is running at mid to high speed there should be a good spray of water coming out those relief ports. Beautifully running engine. Mine is a TN-26 from 1950. I haven’t run it for 30 years, need to get it up and going again.
Nice Motor 0 seconds ago hey nice motor. I have question for you. I guy wants me to work his 1955 25 hp Johnson. His say it way low on power. I have never work on a 25hp. I was wondering what compression should be. I checked and its about 88 on both wondering if that the problem before I even start. It runs and has spark in both clys. Reply
Compression gauges vary unfortunately, but your 88psi on BOTH cylinders is sufficient for a good running engine. Did you do it after running to confirm that the head gasket is good? The 25 is really no different than any other twin two stroke. Make sure vitals are good and then work towards pin pointing the problem.
Looks backwards from portable motors. Designed to lay on the ground facing forward when loading? Unusual. Also, seems odd high speed and low speed carb control is so far apart. Must be one is linkage, the other is needle valve? Nice survivor. I have a 55 evenrude to restore.
@Dude1100110012 I agree whole heartedly. It depends on brand for when a FULLY integrated throttle was introduced. For example: The Elgin 16hp made by West Bend 1951, Johnson QD-14 10hp in 1953, Mercury KH7 Cruiser 10*hp 1952, Scott Atwater 7.5hp and 10hp Gold Pennant models 1953, etc…
