My late BIL, Had one years ago. According to him they made good boat anchors 😂 It quit on him out in the middle of the lake. He unfastened it & dropped it over board. Said it was not going to ride back while he paddled. 😂😂😂
Poor engine. The systems on them were no different than many other brand engines. I wonder what difficulties he had with it. I’m sure they could have been remedied.
my pop got a deal, back in 63, It was known as a 43 Hp scott atwater very unreliable engine, electrical issues with it, may be run type engine, when it did, it was OK, other wise it was fashion together, parts product from other known sources an other one was the Fire-stone out board, loud loud engine, ran great, 16 HP, it ran hard. like it was to go in to self destruct. back in the day Elgen was an other popular out board.
I’ve come to really like the Scott Atwater engines. No matter what brand engine, they all need the same attention to details when servicing them. And the West Bends are some of my favorites. Light smooth and powerful!
