I start repairing and ordering heater core and blower fan parts for my 1954 Chevy pickup and decide to try a first ever winter cold start with it. Will it start?
I've got a 53 4400 and absolutely love it. I plan on working it. It's got a 235, sm420 and HAD a timken 429 2 speed rear axle which I swapped out to a 97 chevy 1.5 ton 456 rear end for better top end speed and because my truck had suicide wheels and no one would touch them so now I'm running 19.5s front and rear. Can't wait till spring so I can get it out!
I'm hoping for around 65 comfortably. I just want to keep up with traffic but I don't want the engine screaming. We will see. I know it hurt my low end pulling power but I'm hoping because the 19.5s are 2.5 inches smaller that it will get me a little bit of low end back. Which means the speedometer is incorrect so I'll be buying a vintage style same size GPS speedometer.
Honestly I'm not sure, but when I ordered a float for it on rock auto based off of the 235 engine, it was correct so it belonged with that engine. I do remember seeing a remanufactured date sticker on it but no manufacture label. Thanks for watching!
