On "My Car Story" we're in Volo IL on 2-5-16.
We're looking at a 1957 Chevrolet Chevy 150 with the Fuel Injected engine option. Usually when a person orders a base model and wishes to get outstanding engine performance (checked the fuel injection option box on the cars build sheet) the goal is to go fast.
Today I'm speaking with Brian Grams, Director of the Volo Auto Museum.
The car's located at Volo Auto Museum, 27582 Volo Village Rd., Volo IL 60073.
Web site is www.VoloCars.com
If you love cars (Hollywood, Classic, Muscle, Antique), and Military equipment, memorabilia, and mementos then you must stop by this location.
ENJOY!

I learned to drive in a '57 210! The year was 1965, I was only 14 and it was my father's car. Golden Sierra with India Ivory top, 4 door sedan, 6 cyl, 3 speed. The father of my best friend in high school had a '57 Bel Air Turquoise Blue with India Ivory top, 4 door ht, V8, 3 speed. We used to have long technical discussions about both cars!

My grandfather had a 57 injector on his 55. Lots of other tasty things as well. Handmade headers, large journal 327, bored 90 over, and skirted. Lakewood bell housing, magneto, Hurst 3 speed, and much more. He also had a 63 Vette injector, that I got to detail prior to it being sold.

Hi Ander Pendragon, Your Grandfather had some fun cars :-) Lou
@anderpendragon

He built all of his cars from the frame up. He had a 57, 150 2 door post also with the 327 Vette engine, but it had a #DZ 302 intake, Holley, and a Duntov #7 cam in it. He had the 63 Rochester injector on it at one point, but hated fiddling with it. I think it also had the 302 heads, which he would've custom ported. Powerglide, 540-something rear gears. He said he never could wind it out. It just kept pulling. The 55 had a one off Schooler (hope I spelled it right) cam in it.

This car was definitely ordered strictly just for racing. Other than the color this exact car was the starting point for the Black Widow stock cars they ran in the 57 NASCAR season. This car is one of my favorite Chevy's ever made and really it's Chevy's very first high performance car along with the 57 Fuelie Corvette's. Gorgeous 57. I liked the 150 and 210 sedans better than the Bel Air. A bit lighter and cleaner styling imo.👍👍

They offered the base model 57 with the injected 283 in it. Just Google "57 black widow".

I wonder if the chrome "rocket" inserts on the hood are correct for a '57 150?

So it's got the 283\283hp Corvette motor. Wonder how it would have stacked up to the more powerful and heavier 57' Bonneville which also had fuel injection.

The 57 Bonneville's were all convertibles so therefore they were definitely heavier than a Fuelie Chevy 150 . The 57 Oldsmobile 88 with the Tri Power J2 option was a hot car at that time too. But a supercharged F-Code Ford Custom 2 door post car or an F-Code T-Bird was probably the fastest car you could buy in 1957. The F-Code 57 Ford's are extremely rare. So many beautiful iconic cars were built in 1957

I believe that the "black widow" was a fuel injected 150. Do you have any info on them, or were they a 210 as well?
@jeremythompson9122

The NASCAR Black Widows were 150 2 door post cars so the Fuelie 283 definitely was available in the 150 and 210.

57 was first year for the 4 speed in the corvette. A lot of corvette's still had 3 speeds on the floor. 62 was first year for 327. 67 last year for 283.Gm went to the large main journals in 68 which came the 307 with the 3.25 stroke and the 3.875 bore. 1961 was the last year for a performance 283. The 327 stoll all the thunder. 396 Big Block came on the scene in 65.

Especially the stripper 150 and 210 sedans. Most of them got raced, modified, wrecked etc. The 150 and 210 2 door post cars were used by racers because they were cheaper, lighter, and more rigid than the Bel Air

You could not purchase a 150 hartop in '57. The 150s are prized by many. Most met an early demise as they were inexpensive work and race vehicle. All trifive Chevy's today are popular and quite collectable. Many, including myself, perfer the post car as it makes a more aggressive looking and more rugged (less body flex) hotrod.
@jeffcolt9185

this car is the cheapest made but it's also the weakest not the strongest
@jeremythompson9122
@jeremythompson9122 4 года назад
No the 150 and 210 post cars were lighter and had a more rigid structure than a Bel Air hardtop. That's why drag racers and stock car racers all used the 150 and 210 2 door post coupes instead of the Bel Air

I don't know where you got that idea. Same frame, plus, at least with the 150, it's going to have a sedan post. Also, all engine options were available for all three.
@jeffcolt9185
@jeffcolt9185 2 года назад
@@philbarrows2431 the cheaper the car the cheaper the steel to some degree, I tried to put a 60 Biscayne front end on a 60 Impala and the bumper brackets and braces where smaller, and the hood was about 20 lbs lighter
@philbarrows2431
@philbarrows2431 Год назад
@@jeffcolt9185 That may be the case for the Biscayne and Impala, however the three '57 models had identical body panels, brackets and part numbers. Though there was an exception with the Belair's lower roofline - no mix n match glass or door frames.
