I remember watching this game with my dad on a small screen Muntz b/w tv living in St. Louis. I was 9 yrs old. My dad was from there, a big Cardinals fan and brainwashed me. We moved back to New Jersey where my mom was from and I soon became a Yankee fan. My dad was pissed!

Newsreel announcer is Chris Schenkel, best known for early NFL broadcasts on DuMont/CBS and ABC's coverage of college football and bowling. Former Browns outfielder and St. Louis native Roy Sievers with Senators in '57 was on AL All-Star team but did not play - he was only Brownie's player on either squad that day. He was traded to D.C. after the Browns moved to Baltimore in Feb. '54, not too far to move. NL catcher Foiles was probably the most traded player on either squad, in 10 years he was on 9 different clubs including twice w/Reds. That field looked no better than a rec field, with only one club in St. L.

It was NOT Busch Stadium. It was Sportsman's Park. I would know as I attended a Cardinals game at Sportsman's Park in 1957.

Cincinnati fans made a joke of the NL ALL STAR team. The commissioner actually had to put Arron and Mays in the starting line up' This game was back when the All Star game meant a great deal to players and fans and now a days the game is meaningless for the players and the fans.

When did Sportsman Park start getting called Busch Stadium?

August Busch bought the Cardinals in 1953, renovated the stadium and wanted to call it Budweiser Stadium, but that was vetoed by Ford Frick baseball commissioner because of concerns over naming a ballpark after a brand of beer,so he called it Busch Stadium. Then the next year he introduced a new beer called Busch Beer and got the last laugh.

Another fun fact about Sportsman’s Park/Busch Stadium #1: Until Anheuser-Busch bought the Cardinals AND the ballpark, the Cards were tenants at Sportsman’s Park, as the ballpark was owned by the St. Louis Browns. The Browns, however, weren’t a good ballclub, and the Cards usually outdrew them by quite a lot. Once Browns ownership knew Anheuser-Busch was buying the team, they knew they would continue to have financial trouble and moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles. The Browns only won one AL pennant in their history, 1944, and in the World Series they played….. Yes, they played the Cardinals! And all the games were at Sportsman’s Park! For many years, I could stump people with the trivia question: “When & where was the last time all the games of a World Series were held in the same stadium?” Most people guessed Yankee Stadium. However, during the COVID year, that old answer no longer stands, as all those World Series games were at Globe Life in Arlington TX.
