I'm so glad to see for the first time that the air ride suspension and the trunk open and close actually working as they should on the Brougham. This is the class of luxury with so many other details. The epitome of "Bells and Whistles" and I love it.

I rode in a 1959 Black Cadillac Limousine when my father died. The detail on the back of the seat of this 1958 White Eldorado, gave me a start, because I wasn't thinking of that black limo as I watched this video. The detail on the back of the seat was exactly the same as in the black limo in which I road to my father's funeral. I was nine years old. I had four siblings. And I remember my mother saying, "This will probably be the only time these kids will ever ride in a Cadillac." Thanks for the memories. When you get to be my age, memories are pretty much all you'll have. God Bless America.

I was at a lakeside restaurant in Austin some years ago and I spotted a cream-colored Brougham in the parking lot. The owner was near the car and saw that I recognized it. He was nice enough to let me look at everything. He had all of the amenities, including the notepad, pen, perfume atomizer, compact, lipstick holder, in the rear armrest, and the glasses, tissue dispenser, cigarette case and a perfume flask. it had white and black upholstery. The air ride operated perfectly. My mother had a 1958 Buick Roadmaster, white, with light blue upholstery. It had many of the same features, including the air suspension, only missing the Autronic Eye. Great car, too.

@6:47 - people always miss the opportunity to speak to the design of the dash on these Eldorados. The design was meant to mirror the tail end design of the car. The green indicators are the fins and the gauges are the taillights

If I'm not mistaken, the big bullet like protrusions on the front bumper are affectionately called, "Dagmars" ! A young actress named Virginia Ruth Egnor was paid a whopping $75 a week in the 1950s to play a "Dumb Blonde" personna on a TV show. She wore a low-cut blouse to draw attention to her rather large womanly chest endowments. Fan mail hit huge numbers, as she was quite the sensation at the time. The General Motors brands sported these large protrusions on Caddies, Buicks, Pontiacs and the Mercury brand did too. Just a bit of trivia that reflected the mindset of car enthusiast and such in the Golden Age of the fire breathing land yachts of post WWII years.

In 1959 and 1960 Cadillac had Pinin Farina of Italy produce Broughams. Although they were interesting, they were nowhere as innovative as the previous years. Once completed the cars were flown back to Fleetwood for finishing touches in a 747 specially fitted for that chore.

Eldorados usually had year newer fins on them... for instance '59 Eldorado got the upcoming smaller '60 tail fins instead of the giant, now beloved, '59 tail fins... '56 got '57 fins... '57 got slightly imbedded lower '58 look fins... apparently '58 Eldo didn't get the upcoming '59 giant fins...

This clearly illustrates that in 58 IF you had the dough, GM could build you a car that could rival or surpass any Rolls-Royces or Mercedes in quality, luxury and features, a time before bean counters took over an abandoned quality, cheapening everything for the sake of volume and cost cutting, a stark contrast to what GM produced in the 70's and later...
