This video shows the car in the process of being repaired. It is a fine example of a 1958 Fairlane. This video also shows how I repaired the power seat mechanism and I explain how it functions. Very interesting.

Thanks for the video and a look at this great car. Also, it's about time someone did a video about power seats. Thanks for filling that void.

Hey Sierra, yes I think it is interesting too. I was thinking to do one on the 64-66 seat mechanism. Just the operation though, I dont want to dismantle any of those, too much trouble.

That is a beauty of a car! I guess Ford was trying new things with the suspension, and the A/C, trying to figure it all out...even today on the new cars, we scratch our heads say "what were they thinking". Lol Thank you Nick for explaining how the power seat works, and for showing us this car! 😀

Hey Alvin, no worries mate. Im here to serve the public with total Thunderbird nonsense. And an occasional Caddy and Skyliner. Thanks.

I love '58 Fords! The Skyliner is especially beautiful, though I hear they are a bear to keep the retractable top function working. Thanks for the in depth explanation on how the power seats work in these old cars.

Nick, Thanks, my friend. I appreciate you showing us that convertible, but it makes me realize my age. 😒 My dad owned a '58 Ford. Bought it off the showroom floor. I have to tell ya that it looked sharp, but was a heap of junk on wheels. The body to frame alignment was somehow screwed up. A factory rep came to our house to see it for himself. He parked the car very close to a wall. The front fender was about 2" away, but the rear one was almost 6" away. The frame build was another issue. When driving in the rain you'd see four tire tracks in the rear view mirrow. Dad never again bought Ford. From then on it was strictly Oldsmobiles and Buicks for him. But I have to say that the Skyliner you're working on looks really sharp, especially with that continental kit. I'm a die hard continental man. But as for those wide whitewall tires...by the late 50s nobody had them on their cars. They were considered old-timey. Regards, John

Hey John, yes it is a very nice car. Personally I do not like 50's technology. They tried to do too much too soon like the AC in this car. What a disaster. No thought for the mechanic. I had a 58 Turn pike cruiser and sold it because I didn't like the poor technology. 60's cars are much better and much easier to work on. My dad came home with a 1957 Chrysler New Yorker in 1959. I thought a rocket ship landed in the front yard. I finally got one of my own but my x wifey took it in the divorce. Cest la vie.

Hello Nick. That is a beautiful car for sure. Glad to see you working on it. That thickened grease was probably the original stuff. Thanks for the demo on how it works. George B

Great video . I have learned so much from you watching you're video's . Fixed a lot of things on my 63 Tbird. Thanks Nick
@vintagethunderbirdrepair9426
Hey Mike, I don't do a lot of 63 videos but you can still apply most of it to your car. Thank you.

What a beautiful car. Will you be doing anything with the retractable hard top? I am dying to see that thing in action.
@vintagethunderbirdrepair9426
Hey John, he wanted me to do the heater core and wiper motor upgrade but no go on that. Ill do the suspension, seat and something else I cant remember. The top works fine and I was not planning on filming the top. There are a few videos on RU-vid that show the complete operation up and down. Maybe. Lets see what happens. Thanks.

Hi Nick. Great Job and video as always. I have a 1959 Thunderbird convertible with bucket seats. Is mine a mechanism like this? I haven't taken the seat out yet to look at it, but it doesn't work well. The motor is working but nothing happens much. Curious if mine works like this. Thanks. Jim from Ft Lauderdale
@vintagethunderbirdrepair9426
Hey Jim, wow what a coincidence. I was just looking at my M series video I made a long time ago and was reading your comments to it. Then I clicked here and here you are. That's pretty weird if you ask me. Your square bird has bucket seats and the mechanism is completely different. However, usually they just need to be blown off, cleaned and then lubed. Its also not uncommon for the seat switch to be bad too. Try those fixes and see what happens. Good luck.
