On "My Car Story" we're in Chicago on 8-17-19.
We're looking at a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible in Graystone White Paint and a Copper Accent. The car comes with the with the optional Tri-Power three two barrel Rochester carbonators from the factory on a 370 CI V8 engine producing 300 HP.
The car's Owner is Les Scopes. Les’ has had this car since 2014. Les shares at 13 years old his mother had a car like this and he got a set of keys made and took it out and was caught by the police doing 100 MPH!!
Bottom line is he always loved his Mom’s car and decided to get one like it, and this one has been restored to showroom condition.
ENJOY!

The story about Les sneaking out and getting caught going 100 + mph was wonderful! Even better was him not "learning his lesson"! You always get the best stories from your auto aficionado friends! Thanks again Lou for another great 50's classic. A side note...... I always thought the front end of the 58 Pontiac was very similar to the Cadillac of that same year!.😉 P.S. I could go on and on about this but all you have to do is compare any make or model that existed in the late 60s and early 70s and then compare it with the same make and model from the later 70s and you'll see what I mean ,Oh by the way I have one of these 1958 Pontiac Bonnevilles in 1_ 18 scale die cast to see one in real life is quite a thrill but I can look at one almost every day. This car reminds me of the 1958 Bonneville Convertible featured in the Perry Mason TV Series, Season 2, Episode 2, "The Case of the Lucky Loser", as the purported hit-and-run vehicle driven by the purported assailant, character Ted Balfour. Although I can't tell for sure what that car's colors were, since those early episodes were shot in Black & White. Also, that car lacked the Tri-Power emblem on the fender, so no 3 deuces either. Would be great to find a Bonneville Convertible Tri-Power as well-preserved and restored as this one to keep as my Summer Beach Cruiser! Well-Done Les, and Well-Done Lou!

He sold it with a carburetor on it. Years later he found it in Hemmings for sale. 90K less the fuel injection. Of all the cars he had he wishes he kept it & the fuel injection! Me too! Hi Lou You are having too much fun. Talking to the old timers, the things we got away with back in the 50's & 60's. Simplier times, no stress & beautiful, beautiful cars. Imagine the assembly workers they wouldn't of thought twice these cars would stand the test of time, & when they did they would be so desired & appreciated. First year of the dual headlights, great stance, like a whale shark mouth looking at the grill. Is the car yard open for car people like me to visit Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Australia 👍 ☺

Loosing your drivers license for 6 months when you were 16! Possibly the worst time to lose it, just after you got it. Driving was extremely important to me at 16, I don't think I would have survived for 6 months without my license then.

Most people forget that Pontiac was regarded as an old man's car during this time period. If it weren't for "Bunkie" Knudsen injecting some coolness and performance into the brand (only some in 1958, he went all-out for 1959), Pontiac would have been axed LaSalle-style by the GM brass. While I personally don't like this Pontiac, I'm glad to see that someone does. Good on him!
