Great job Jonathon, way to save an old 59 Ford, She is back on the road again. Hopefully the new owner will already have love for her and do more work to her.
You SIR are a Genious! Drag something out of a 35 year nap and get it to drive down the road! I worked with someone just like you at my Dodge Dealership job that I had for over 5 years!
It's really coming together. I'm quite fond of those old Fords, and I especially enjoy a success story. I enjoy watching your videos, and am always looking forward to more of them. You have a great day, and thanks for sharing these videos with us, Jay
The old car gods were watching you, at least you made it back to your drive before totally dying. Have to admit the spitting and sputtering does make it a bit more exciting. Great voids, great topics, super great narrator. Thanks
it might be helpful to keep the rust out of the fuel lines, by placing neodymium magnets from an old hard drive on the fuel tank. that way the rust will be caught on the magnet, and not get sucked up by the sump.
Seeing someone's idea of using neodinium magnets, sounds cool but, nothing beats dropping the tank & cleaning it out! That 59 looks amazing! Sweet truck!
That was still sucking some crude into that fuel filter but hey the lines have to bleed it out some way. Yeah its always hard to second guess someones wiring. You have no idea what they did or didn't do better off just tracing and replacing. Surprised me how fast you took off down the road i would have thought it would have just lugged down a bit. Thanks for sharing another fun video
that is awesome. Love it when you have a problem at home or just right at the driveway. You gotta give a little thanks when that happens. course you have an in with the tow truck outfit :)
Well at least you made it into your driveway!! I am sure you know all ready, but check your battery terminals/distributor. My Farmall H did the same thing and I cleaned them both and it purred like a kitten afterword! Great video Jonathan!! : )
I remember condensers going bad acting just like that. I believe you are on the right track. Pretty sure you are going to have fuel problems from the color of that filter it got dark immediately!
southernfriedhippie You're not alone, I think any truck older than 20 years has moods. My '88 s15 has unpredictable performance, one day it struggles in 5th going up a hill, and the next it does just fine. Even after checking the distributor for moisture it still has good and bad moods.
Scotty Collins I would have thought that the built in fuel filter in the fuel pump would have caught alot more than what it did, it surprised me to see it that dirty when it got to the secondary filter
Had a similar issue when I got my 64 running. Lots of varnish black as coffee grounds broke loose from inside the aluminum line from the pump to the carb. Did ok on city streets but when I got to 60 it started cutting out and died the same exact way his did.
Man, its coming along quite well. Have you ever Loaded one of those Condensor's and left it lay'n around on a table or something? just waiting for someone to PICK it up and look at it.......We used to do that a lot back in the 50's & 60's. talk about funny : ))))
Hell man, you had me worried! Turns out it was just something needing replaced anyway, considering it's a 6 volt setup and you're wanting to run 12 volt, a little restomodding never hurt anything. I was half expecting something getting thrown out the block or otherwise something horrendous, but nope.
its looking great.. I think the body should be scuffed with a scotchbrite pad and waxed or clearcoated ..looks good... the battery hold down needs more than a bungee .. we all know you have one in the hoard somewhere
Have you ever used "Patina oil" . I knew a guy here in NC who used it on rat rods he built . I think it is some kind of linseed oil mixture. It looked great!
surprising that the points didn't get burned pretty bad of the coil didn't have a resistor or no external one installed. I have done that before, the car ran like a stripped a**ed ape for about a week , then really flunked out.
John Hull ....I know right? can't you just see that completely restored? Man, that would be one beautiful truck. They have great body line's like you said. The new vehicles today just hasn't got any style to them. They pretty much look all the same. Technology is great but I think they went a little bit overboard. lol
Larry Graves I agree.... I was thinking today in rush hour....pick a car....is it Buick, Kia, Hyundai, or Lincoln....who can tell.... Who's going to wanna preserve any of this stuff??? I do like the new f150.... but for pickups.... this body is one of my favorites
John Hull ....Right on. You used to be able to take a drive and see alot of beautiful car's and trucks back in the day. even van's. Not anymore though. very rare nowadays. I do have a 73 f100 that runs. I would like to restore that one day before I get to old. lol I'm old now but I mean older. lol
Larry Graves I know in high school I did a 67 mustang.... that honestly was too far gone, I even learned how to weld putting new front rails and torque boxes on it.... drove it to college in Michigan from Pittsburgh in the summer....also put a 289 in a 82 ranger in 1991 for a beater....used to put camshafts in Chevy's and timing chains in 307 olds' for money. most kids these days don't even look for a job until they are 25 and if it ain't a video game they can't do it.... I worked in a steel mill for two years in college as an intern.... you can't put a price on experience like that
The body on the truck isn't all that bad. Personally I'd leave it as it, repaint the interior and put a new seat in it, throw a nice wood floor in the bed and drive it. Probably fix that transmission mounting situation.
when you were being pulled up into your driveway after it died I noticed a willys pickup. would it be for sale by chance ? My dad had one when I was a kid.
I love that truck. I'd put 4 new RWL tires on it, and keep the center caps, or go with black painted oem steel wheels with RWL tires. As for the ignition, why not replace the entire ignition system, distributor, coil, plugs and wires? Not much to an ignition system on that engine, and not expensive. Then you would not have to deal with ignition problems again.
is it a 292 or 312 CID? can you tell?. just wondered. both engines will last forever.😀 may need to install a Dodge type resistor cause Ford uses a resistive type wire.cool truck.
272, or 292 ? Ya want to make it look half way decent ? Trans fluid.....used fluid (minus black stuff) works just fine ! New fuel lines, old 1's are prolly rusted bad. Did ya check the condition of the points ? I wouldn't want to wander around your yard...i'd drool myself dry !
I resell these, so I don't invest anymore than I absolutely have too. Not because I want to make more money, but I want to get this into the hands of someone that really wants it and may not have a lot of money to spend.
Jonathan W Ok understand that. Wondering if (since there were some electrical problems come up) you would have pulled them, brushed um off and re-gapped them? From all the crazy jerry rigging that was done on this one, I'll bet a couple dollars there are at least two types of plugs on her - haha.
Jonathan W Been watching your videos Jonathan W , really like what you do . Have been looking for a fifties/sixties dodge truck. Can I get you to help me find one that runs? I can do the bigger things myself like getting the engine running if it's not locked up and body work. Nick...

With all you do I can't believe you sub is so low. Anyway see ya again soon. Love watching and the bike is going to be the best. PS LOL what a pos a 58 year old truck and she has issues ,guess you should trade her in for a 1960 get ya a newer one LOL

Rockauto has a lot of parts you just can't find anywhere else. I have bought a lot of parts there for my 1972 Pinto wagon, a car you just cannot get parts for. Their one big problem is SUPER expensive shipping. Shipping charges often exceed the cost of the parts.
