Hi, Lou! Yes sir, James Dean would have loved this one fer sher! The 356 dates back to the first Porsche of 1948 and was produced through 1965. Hank said this car was an outgrowth of the Beetle. No surprise there, since Ferdinand Porsche was a prime force behind both. I think this is the longest ride you've ever taken us on, and no wonder, considering how quickly and seamlessly it handles the curves and turns. Here in Massachusetts, there is this wicked hairpin turn out in the northern Berkshires, and it would be interesting to find out how this car would handle THAT! Thanks to you and Hank for taking us all along in this "Hotub"! I never new there was such a thing as a 4-cylinder beast! LOL!

Oh Lord won't you buy me a 1959 Porsche 356A Convertible D. First sight I almost swooned, Steve McQueen. Then of course James Dean. Saw Janis Joplin in her's, in a photo, last week. Hank! A great guy. I feel like I'm talking to my brother and nephews. Gorgeous!!! Goggles, leather gloves and dusters please. The detail. The chrome. The removable windshield! Hank explains absolutely everything so it's easy to understand. The silver. It's stunning! Let's cruise. And what campus was that? Really enjoyed this Lou and Hank. Red interior the best. Old School, Best School. Love the green manicured lawns too. Wouldn't want a Kia to take off before me. A true beast. Crusin' top down. In the garage. Lucky wife too!

I've long had a weakness for the tiny, four cylinder, roadsters. This one is spectacular. Might I recommend, if the opportunity rises you check out the 67-73 Fiat 850 Spider or Racer.

Porsches were meant to be silver aren't they? I love this car, this and the first gen 911 are my faves. Would love to actually drive this; who needs massive horsepower when you have a jewel like this. Terrific video Lou, thanks so much.

Another great video Lou. I had a feeling that either you or Hank would mention James Dean during this video. I was trying to remember if you had ever done a video on a Porsche 550 Spyder or not? I know that they are very rare.

I had a 1959 356 1600 super cabriolet hardtop. I bought it In 1985 for $6,500 it only had 34 k miles it had a complete aircraft log book of maintenance every single gas tank had been average by the owner . 28 to 34 MPG. I completely restored the car in 1986 in drove it all over California .In 1989 I won the under 2L pre 1960 class in the LA Carrera classic in Baja California Mexico. The engine had never even had a valve job . The race distance was 200 km 124 miles on Mexican highway 3 from Ensenada to San Felipe the course ran from sea level to to about 4,000 feet in the mountains and then back down to sea level. My average speed was 88.7 mph . Best drive of my life I had an epic battle with a 1959 Corvette 283 he would pass me going up hills I would pass him going down hills. We changed positions at least a half-dozen times. I ended up beating the Corvettes time by less than 30 seconds. The little "Giant Killer" strikes again..! I also won my class in the 1987 and 1988 LA Carrera driving a 1956 Dodge NASCAR spec D-500 315 Hemi. The Dodge was actually faster than the Porsche and the Corvette averaging 89.3 mph. Comparatively in the Dodge it was a fast Sunday drive. In the Porsche the drive was sheer terror with a Corvette on my ass it was 9/10s and flat-out all the way.. lol

My friend just bought a new 911. After watching this video it’s interesting to see how the car evolved.

3 year restoration, but he has had it only since November 2020 - so it was restored before he bought it? it is a beautiful car, there is something special about European cars of that vintage that were built more for driving enjoyment, not trying to go 0 - 60 in fastest time.
