I pulled this 1960 Ford Ranch Wagon from a private salvage yard in the fall of 2020. The Ranch Wagon is the lower trim package for the 1960 Ford wagons and this one came equipped with the OHV inline 6 cylinder and column shifted 3 speed manual transmission. The floors are pretty soft but it's mostly complete. I do have a clear title in my name for the car. If you think you can't live without this thing it's available for $3,000 USD in the shape you see it in this video.

Good grief! That has to be my favorite Ford of all time. 60s are incredibly rare. And their values are off the charts.
@Expatriate1977
@Expatriate1977 3 года назад
Indeed but my dad's 1973 buick century Gran Sport 350 is even rarer. Sold during the oil embargo year and my dad only saw one when he got his. Never saw another after 1973. Starting to go up in value but sadly my dad's was so badly rusted it had to be scrapped. Still sad about that and looking for another one to build a tribute car from.

Love the cars from the late 50s and early 60s. The designers just went wild. I think it's proof that even back then some people were smoking some really good stuff. Sure to be another good one with Mortske and Duff!

The '60 wagon was really a one-year-only body style. They never put the 170 C.I. engine in the full-sized cars because it just didn't develop enough power. They used the 223 "I-block" engine instead. Nice find, Thomas.
@donellmuniz590
@donellmuniz590 3 года назад
Yeah, the 170 sucked. It wasn't even enough motor for the Falcons it came in. The 200 in Mustangs, later Falcons, Mavericks, and Fairmonts wasn't much better. The 250 was ok though.
@101Volts
@101Volts 3 года назад

@@101Volts Nah, the 170 did fine, the 144 is what sucked, it was an odd one however. Mine got mid to high 30s for mileage in town but would drop to high 20s on highway.

Tickled to recall Dad bought a 4 yr. old one. Original owner; after having all external cooling parts replaced thought it had an internal engine problem, because it ran hotter than it should. Dad bought it from him it for a song as I remember. As a mechanic he found that the fan was just been installed backward. It had a salty V8 automatic in it. Obligements to you & the Duff. Top notch entertainment every post.
@101Volts
@101Volts 3 года назад
That vaguely reminds me of my Grandpap telling me that when he bought a new Ford in the mid 50s (I forget when; 1955, give or take a year.) He was driving it home with only maybe 100 miles on it, then the idiot light turned on. He idled it home, and he later found that the oil filter wasn't on tight enough.

Wow, this is a ford sunliner wagon. When I was a tike in the early sixties, there was a breadman that made deliveries door to door in those days, and he carried a metal basket with loaves of bread, cookies and maybe donuts. He drove this wagon I remember and it was brown.

The FE Engine was an option for that year wagon. 58 Was the first year for the FE Series. That straight six is probably the 223.

Yeah, FE stood for Ford/Edsel, and Edsel debuted as a 58 model. The MEL (Merc/Edsel/Lincoln) series included a 368, 430, and later a 462. And though it was labeled as a Merc-Edsel-Lincoln engine, the 430 was also an option in Thunderbirds in 59-60.

The funny looks made it where you could drive it on the highway in a strong wind and it did not swerve around like most cars did. I know people who have smaller apartments than the trunk. Hey Mortske; love those old wagons of the 50's and 60's they had style. In my opinion; which is not be worth much, but once you pull that old boat anchor out drop a 352 or a 390 or maybe go big and drop a 460 and mate them up with a 4 speed top loader they would go nicely with that 9 inch. Keep doing what your doing; love the old cars you have and if I didn't live in Nova Scotia, Canada I'd buy that wagon or one of your other cool vehicles for my 15 yr old son and I to wrench on. I would love to see you do more revivals on oddball cars like this. Like I said before, everyone does trucks and muscle cars. While muscle cars might have had lower initial production runs, they have been preserved and restored at a much higher rate than station wagons or commercial utility vehicles. There are likely more muscle cars on the road today than there are of some of these forgotten makes or models. I would like to see someone take an interest in some of these forgotten cars. For instance, my favorite car that I have owned was a '79 Volare. Most people I encountered had either never heard of it, or looked at me like I was crazy for trying to put it back together. I eventually gave up after ten years because I could not find parts anywhere. I would like to see someone take an interest in cars like that before it is too late, and there are none left to fix. BTW, I would love to see you get back to that Monaco.

Hey Mortske, you were wondering why so many people wanted to see you try to get the '60 wagon going? For me it's easy. I've seen countless '64 Chevys in all different conditions but I've never seen a '60 Ford Ranch Wagon in person. While I'd love to own the '64 Chevy, I'd really like to see more rare and unique rides out there. Love your vids!!

@@MortskeRepair You could get the FE option in 1960 Fords and you could order the 352 or the 406. The FE came out in 57 as a 332 CI and then in 58 the added the 352 CI. The reason they offered these bigger engines is because there were people that pulled trailers and boats because in those days the family station wagon was the SUV. Wagons are getting more popular as classic restores for customization.If you ever find a Country Squire or Country Sedan or even a Ranch Wagon that has less rot, you still have quite a few good parts on this car to use.

The FE came out in 58' and in 60' it was an option ,, 352 with 3 speed cruiseomatic was the top drivetrain for that wagon..

I believe that FEs were 332 in 58
@2packs4sure
@2packs4sure 2 года назад
@@daviduglem3213 That's almost correct,,, there was 332'S and 352'S in 58' and 59',,, the 332 went away for 60'. There were three versions of 352's in 60'..

If you have a stuck engine put hot automatic transmission fluid and Gibbs into it. It will not unsize it straight away but after 24 there is 70% change the engine will unsize. 30% it is just a hopeless case.
