The model numbers are 1P3311 on the smaller maple finished unit from 1969 and 3ST648 on the larger walnut unit from 1965. Both units feature Micromatic record changers made in England by Collaro. One is model W701.

Those consoles were a lifetime investment, I'm not tech backwards supporter but they had a sound that I have yet to find a stereo good enough that involves the family and friends together for a nice record play sessions, I was lucky enough to have one and probably get one since records are still sold, I just wish there were machine for normal users like me to make my own.

The jacks on most models are as follows: Phono input, auxilary input and record output. The two jacks that you were not sure of is the record out/line out jacks for recording or adding other amplifiers to drive extra speakers.

Nice consoles, Good job fixing them. I love these old consoles. I prefer the ones with 8 track tape players and doors that lift up. I don't know why I don't like the sliders. I think it's because they are generally made of plastic and particle board. As well as the fact that the front panels and the top of most of the slider door consoles, Make them look like a china cabinet that's missing it's curio cabinet on top! LOL In fact I once went to a thrift store and found a white console that looked somewhat similar to this and it actually had a china curio cabinet on top and you accessed the stereo and turntable from the front underneath the curio cabinet lol it was ugly. The turntable pulled out in a drawer in the front and there was a drop-down door on top that was actually the Am/Fm tuner, With the selector switch tuning knob and bass, treble and balance it wasn't plugged in. And I believe I asked the staff and they said it needs a lot of work. But I hated the color so I wouldn't have bought it! It was off-white yuck! Sorry to tell you. I understand you don't want to get hung up for a copyright warning. But that first record was horrendous lol 😂 I don't think he'll have to worry about people stealing his music hahaha! I'm more of a 60',s 70' and 80's classic rock and R&B and soul music guy myself. That guy sounded like Neil Young with a bad case of laryngitis! And I love Neil Young! So that's an insult to Neil lol I'd rather get a pissed off cat thrown at me than listen to another minute of that! Lmao

Thanks, Steve. I like a lot of indie music you won't find on the radio. I enjoy the thrill of discovery with some of this stuff, just like with the equipment I choose to feature on the channel. I like it when people are doing their own thing and looking for their own voice. That's why I enjoy my friend John Bellows' music so much. Thanks for the comment!

Astro-Sonic... it's all about the space race man. We're gonna colonize the moon and stuff. When I was a kid, I got to enjoy a few consoles that were 15-20 years old. As a boy, I would stand on a chair to watch the record spin. I have a scar on my chin from the times I fell forward off the chair and whacked my chin on the console. That record reminds me of Beck's early works, before anyone knew who he was. I liked that stuff better since it had no rules.

I had that exact model console in the eighties. Made in Japan sounded amazing, especially Space Truckin.

Both of these were actually made in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Some of the parts were beginning to be Japanese around this time though, including the Nichicon caps.

...and yes, they do sound really amazing. The cabinets on these are essential for getting the proper resonance to reproduce a good chest-pounding, floor shaking sound.

amazing how clean those stereo's were on the inside. Again, brings back alot of memories for me as a kid in the 1970's learning to play that new Zeppelin-ACDC-KISS song on one just like these.. LOL and P.S- the clean your clock album was.. umm. interesting. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that one did not get gold status.. LOL!!!! nice work......

Thanks, Joe. I was spinning some Zep and Kiss on these machines just the other day. The music really comes to life on proper equipment. I know this isn't some $30k hi-fi in someone's NYC loft or anything, but for what they are and for the spaces they are designed to fill - a typical living room or family room area - they are ace.

any market still exist for these? I would guess a person decorating in a retro style would be interested.
@TheGuitologist
@TheGuitologist 7 лет назад
Market is good in larger cities but limited elsewhere. For the time being supply outstrips demand, so you never see them above maybe $200. But with the resurgence of vinyl and the terrible quality of new inexpensive stuff from Crosley, more people will start looking for these, I believe.

How much could you ask for a console magnavox am/fm stereo with turntable for 45 records n albums that was bought in the middle-late 60’s ? What could you sell it for now 11-30-2021?

I have one from the Magnavox Imperial line...AstroSonic with Micromatic turntable still in good condition..truly will blow the neighborhood away..lol...As a teen in the 70s Rush 2112 sounded incredible on it...anyhoo.. you may have addressed this in your videos, when I turn switches on i get loud pop from speakers, is this just a matter of taking off the back and maybe using some air to clean off speakers and wiring. I am currently looking for a replacement needle ( have a lady on EBAY that seems like she has what I need)..but other than that the stereo still cranks up and sounds good...thanks
@TheGuitologist
@TheGuitologist 7 лет назад
Hard to say what that is, but it isn't speaker wires. Did it always make the pop?
@TheGuitologist
@TheGuitologist 7 лет назад
...and what switches make it pop?
@daycare62
@daycare62 7 лет назад
after it warmed up for some time...hasn't been on for a while...the only switch that pops through the speaker is the Bass switch..sounds kind of harsh when setting is changed. the.Bass still adjusts up and down..I don't recall it always doing this , maybe some "arthritis" from sitting for a while and with regular use ..might clear up? does that sound logical..I hate to tear into it as long as it is performing...turntable still rotates nicely, replacement needle was shipped out today..thanks for replying..kind regards.

Hey bud, I know I commented on the first part, apologies, but I am in diar need if your expertise. I have the Astosonic Magnavox just like the one here where you fixed the am/fm radio. Really want to keep it because it was my grandparents. It just that it got put ina garage for a time somewhere and was abused, yes I feel horrible because it is such a nice piece. Everthing worked fine before it was put up but now it just makes a buzz nise from what is call a remote receiver. Please help! I can piddle, maybe figure something out, but will likely mess it up more.
@TheGuitologist
@TheGuitologist 2 года назад
If it just makes a buzz, it's probably in need of a recap. That means all the capacitors in the amplifier need replacing. This is common on equipment of this age. It also will likely need all the switches and controls cleaned with electronics cleaner and lubricant. Switches get to the point where they dont get good connection and you might not get any sound for that reason. But a loud buzz is usually bad capacitors. Your best bet if this means a lot to you is to find someone locally who can go through and change caps for you, if it's not something you can do yourself.
@seanpoteet8535
@seanpoteet8535 2 года назад
@@TheGuitologist I figured as much from the video you posted. I completely agree. Its old and would truly benefit from everything you mentioned in your response. Just that I don't know anyone local. Gna be hard to find. Ill try again though. Its something I would love to try and do myself cause I love tedious work like that.. reminds me of fixing computers and boards and ehat not. Just never have done capacitors, relays etc. Never have done a turntable either. Afraid I may mess up more, lol. Thank you so much for your reply, just wish you were local! 😔 Please let me know if you run across anyone. Hit me up if so and I'll shoot my info to you.
