Hi, Lou! I must say Chuck really lets his love of Buicks comes through with this one. The standard engine for a '61 LeSabre was a 364 V-8, and there were 11,951 convertibles built. The adjustable "Mirror-Magic:" instrument panel (also used in 1960) was quite a unique feature and I imagine the two-tone treatment was pretty rare too. You had a perfect day and setting for a ride with the fountains active! Thanks for taking us along!

I love the 1961 model year of all GM cars. The Buick Le Sabre has a close resemblance to the 1961 Chevrolet Impala. The similarities are striking. This is a beautiful example with that convertible top. The engine sounds healthy, and the car is drop dead gorgeous! These are my kind of cars! Those exotic sports cars do nothing for me. Just my opinion, that's all.

That two tone paint MIGHT have been dealer installed back in 61, but was NOT a factory option. The black cylinder under the hood is a vacuum reservoir and the Wildcat engine was an available option from the factory.

I questioned the two tone paint as well as I have never seen a 1961 before with two-tone paint. However, I'm just a fan of old cars, not an expert...I think you are probably right, it could have been a dealer installed option, but probably not from Buick. Enjoy the day.

Funny, the sound of the hood spring opening up is so familiar during these years. Even the door closing sound seems familiar. These cars were essentially third-hand or more by the time they reached 100,000 miles. It was an event back then to see the speedometer turn from 99,000 miles. This one has half that! It’s still alive! Thanks!!!

I heard about the shocking move GM went in '59 ditching fins, going more plain Jane. There is nothing plain about Chucks late acquisition. We can't fault him on under hood knowledge since he got it recently. AZ is great for drop tops, temps between 70 & 90. The Fountain! Thanks for showing it. I remember the two tone 1961 LeSabre’s. It seems like they offered dark turquoise sides with white as well. Whitewall tires would have helped this car. This was the last year that Detroit specified wide whitewall tires. The 1961 Buick’s were a vast improvement over the 1958, 1959 & 1960 Buick’s.

Gorgeous. Inherent style and cool design even without a lot of options. One option The original owner DID spring for is the very cool 2-tone color combo Buick offered that year on both the LeSabre and Invicta models. (not just the sporty Invicta series as another poster suggested). The odd Wildcat air cleaner decal was applied at factory too even though the Wildcat model didn’t appear until 1963 when Buick introduced it to replace the Invicta.

The owner is happy with it and that’s all that really matters. I would get rid of the totally incorrect red stripe and add narrow whitewalls and otherwise leave it alone. That Wildcat air cleaner is correct and that “ big round thing” is part of the power brake system. Overall, a very nice car!

Not my favorite year for Buick. In the trunk, I would have put the spare tire back onto that little shelf next to the back seat instead of in the front of the trunk if it were to fit. I love that the owner didn't really know much about the engine. I'm with him. My first car was 1965 Buick Electra 225. It was a hand me down from my father's car. I have ZERO idea what the engine size was on that car. Back to the LeSabre, the door panel was so plain for a Buick. I like the dash, though it is far less fancy than I would think of for Buick standards. The engine sounded really smooth...and in great shape! Thumbs up as always. Tomorrow I'll be checking out the 1960 Edsel, one of my favorite cars!!! I can't wait to see your wonderful detail of that car.
