Wow, seeing this car again brings back memories. When I was 15, my older cousin had a car like this in 1965 & he taught me how to drive using this car. It had a 3 speed stick on the column & a clutch, it was hard learning to drive a stick for the first time & my cousin was patient, after a week of driving I finally mastered the stick & clutch & was driving real good. I’m glad I learned to drive in a stick shift car, it helped me later when I was in the Army & I was the only one who could drive a Jeep with it’s stick shift. lol, I’d drive the Captain around & took it easy while the other troops were humpin’. Fond memories of my wayward youth.

Many young folks today don't have a clue how to use a clutch, or shift a manual transmission. Good job young man.

I had to work at not waking the neighbors. Your voice level is all over the map. The music, when it starts, is MANY times louder than your voice. You need to work on a solution. That part of the experience is one no one needs. A consistent level of audio is a MUST!! Nice car. When I was a kid my neighbor had one it was a 1957 (no trunk lid) and I used to sneak into it and listen to the radio. It didn't need a key. Your car was made in England and it has an Austin Motor. Very good reliable engine!

You sure struck gold with that little car. The Metro's were great cars. Would love to have one now but not enough time left to really be able to enjoy it.

WOW, just found you by pure accident. what an absolute beauty you found there. I've always loved Metropolitans - our neighbour here in England had one 64 years ago - she used to take my 2 sisters and I out for a 'spin' in it, up and down the road. I've always wondered why they only said 'Metropolitan' on the passanger side - very strange. Anyway, I hope you keep posting videos of your progress with this, I'm sure plenty of viewers will be following you. Thanks for posting this - take care 🙂

Only thing, it's not a Nash. The Nash brand ceased to exist after 1957. Mets were branded as Hudson 55 thru 57, Austin outside the USA 55 thru 62, Nash and 54 thru 57, AMC 58 thru 62. More AMC Metropolitans were made than Nash versions. This is an AMC version.

Yes you're absolutely correct. I've recently learned this but I can't seem to break the habit of calling it a Nash. Thanks for the correction and info.

I've got a 61 that I'm putting a supercharger on and I've already put the disc conversion on the front new shocks and sway bars for handling. Thoughp they quit making the Metropolitan, they kept using this main train in the MGB so you can get parts. The axle and the midget is actually stronger than what came in the Metro if you ever have one break. Also the heads that they put on them was ridiculous. But you can put a head from an 1800 on an MGB and gain quite a bit of hp. Right now with the supercharger on the factory motor I should be getting around 87 horsepower, and the MGB from the factory came with 95, just to give you an idea of the difference. At some point I will get me a head from 1800 that way I can be cranking more around 140 hp. I'm mainly only got the supercharger so I can put an AC on it. The 1800 B series motor externally is exactly the same as yours. So there are header options and intake for dual carbs available. Good video!

Watch the little beast, I've had 3 of them and everyone of mine has rusted out the hinge post and when you least expect it the thing will take great delight in dropping a door on your foot. motor mounts like to rust out too. I watched all three of mine towed off to the junk yard and then limped into the house and had a beer. Somewhere around here I have some hubcaps and owners manuals. Have a good time with the little monster but don't trust it, they have a fiendish mind of their own.

My neighbor had one (Aqua / white), he was a Nash guy, then Rambler, the last was the Metro. Always loved small cars, live on an island of only 39 sq. miles, so muscle cars are not my thing. I've got to follow this. Narragansett Bay

I bought a 1960 on ebay last november. The floor was rotted out and part of the unibody frame on the pass side also the area of the rear spring hangers. The engine minus all the accessorys and trans was on a pallet inside . There was a rear end housing with no axels or gears. It had been scavenged for many parts The guy I bought it from saw it going to the scrap yard and stopped the guy and " offered him enough money to drop it at his house " in N. Oregon. " I do all my work and am experienced. The 22nd of this month will be one year that the transport truck dropped the little rust bucket off in front of my garage in Ca. It now is a running/driving car the lights and heater work. Body work is finished ,its the original turquise/white over epoxy primer and 2 coats of clear. i still need a windshield and front seat and I am going to make a new fuel tank. im going to have to bite the bullet and pay the $836. for all the window rubbers and felt strips (ouch!!). Its been an interesting project you have a great start. Metro pit stop in Hollywood is the web site you want. I saved alot by knowing that the drive train is the same as Healey Sprit .some MGs and Morris Minor. Im into this one for about 8K at this point. 1K for the car $850. shipping and the rest parts/paint I plan to sell it at this point or when finished . Let me know if you have any questions that I can help with . Have fun!! Terry P.S. that little Honda dream in the barn is a collectable.

The Nash-Hudson-AMC Metropolitan was built by Austin in Great Britain for Nash Motors in the US, to a body designed by Nash and based on the Pinin Farina design for the 1952 Nash cars. They were sold through North American Nash dealerships only, though a few remained in Great Britain. Once Nash-Kelvinator essentially bought Hudson, renamed the corporation American Motors, and the Hudson cars became simply rebadged Nash's, though one Hudson engine plant continued making the new V8 engines for a while. The Hudson name was eventually dropped and the Nash brand was soon dropped and all the cars became AMC's. The Metropolitans went through 2 variations and 3 names. First series had no trunk lid. The second series had a trunk lid and bore Nash and then Hudson badges, then were called AMC Metropolitans. The last cars were built in 1960, but some were left over and sold as 1961's. Hudson Metropolitans are the rarest and so worth a little more. All were built on the new Austin A50 unibody chassis with the Austin engine and transmission.

My first car, given to me by a shirtsleeve uncle (my fathers brothers wives mothers sisters husband, got that), Uncle Herb. A 1959 Metro convertible, black and white, running, but with a sticky clutch and a shot top. Sold it in 1970 for $175. I could kick myself now.
