It's high time we start in on the '62 Corvair. Join me as I take apart the front end steering and suspension. All credit and copyrights to Chevrolet and Nickelodeon.
Great project! My brother and i used to collect corvairs back in the 1970s. Great cars. to heck with Ralph Nader. My friends as well as my uncle tried to flip one over in a corn field. Couldn't make it happen. You have a great sense of humor too! Rock on!
I'm starting this same process on my 63, so nice to see what you're doing. Mine is still under the car, with shocks out. Not sure if the springs are easier done in or out of the car, but it looks like out is fairly straight forward. Thanks for making the videos.
Oh, btw - in tests it was shown the first gen Corvairs were "slightly" more aerodynamic than the second gen. ;-) Our family had a 1964 Corvair Monza convertible (110 hp), and later on I had a 1966 Corvair Corsa convertible (140 hp). ;-) My mom was a bookkeeper at a tire store, the 64 had some of the first Michelin radials in the U.S installed (free). Gas station attendants shook their heads when my mom said they weren't flat. ;-)
Hot Rodders loved the Corvair (all years?) front suspension for its compactness, conversion to disc brakes and rack & pinion steering, that's until the Mustang II came out with I believe both of those extras included.
