The One Who Really Loves You (Robinson) by Mary Wells, produced by Smokey Robinson
This was one of two top-10 hits in 1962 for the first solo female star of Motown (see also “You Beat Me To The Punch”).
THE 1962 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs which made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1962 (some were recorded in 1961).

This was the first of Mary Wells's four Top Ten pop/R&B 1962-64 crossover hits written and produced by Smokey Robinson. He backed her with a Caribbean-esque rhythm that brought out a new soft and sultry sound for 18-year-old Mary Wells. And only Smokey could have come up with a line like, "Oh, oh, oh, silly Lily, you know she doesn't really (want you with a love that's true...)."

Smokey Bill Robinson's 360-degree Motown venture: writing and producing - I think that the vocal group was later identified as The Love Tones

Lyrics: Some other girls are filling your head with jive So, now you’re acting like you don’t know I’m alive Love, you better wake up Yeah, before we break up And you lose me, little me The one who really loves you Susie, only wants you Until the day, yeah (Only wants you until the day) That she’ll again have her true love Who’s far, far, away, yeah (Girl to love who’s far away) (Wake-up) So, love you better wake up Yeah, before we break up And you lose me, little me The one who really loves you (I really love you, yeah-yeah-yeah) Ginny, only wants you ‘Cause she thinks she has to have everyone Minnie, only wants you For she thinks that hurting me would be fun Oh, ooh, oooh Silly Lilly You know she doesn’t really want you With a love that’s true In fact, there’s no other girl In this whole wide world Who can love you like I do They get tired of you Then they’re gonna put ya down (Put you down, put you down) They ain’t gonna want you hangin’ around (Hangin’ around, hangin’ around) (Wake-up) So, love you better wake up Yeah, before we break up And you lose me, little me The one who really loves you (I really love you, yeah-yeah +yeah) I-I-I do (yeah-yeah) Really, really love you (I really love you, yeah-yeah-yeah) Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, ooh-ooh (yeah-yeah) Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh (I really love you) Yeah, I really, really love you (yeah-yeah-yeah)

The origin of the contemporary rhythm metric on Pop and Rock was on the 1959 to 1962 era (Brill Building and Motown arrangements).
