Thank you for posting this. It brings back memories of a winter evening in New Zealand in 1975. The first and only time I ever heard it until now. It was played on the National Programme of the NZBC and I can remember the announcer chuckling at the idea of cha chaing policemen.

Many Thanks! Glad you approve! :) I little before my time...But I do remember Opportunity Knocks from my early years...It was mandatory viewing in our house...haha!!! I can imagine this being the perfect tune for flexing muscles to! I told Bobby Crush a few weeks ago that its about time Opportunity Knocks was brought back, with him as the host!...He'd be perfect for it as Huey is sadly gone now. Even Bobby is in his 40th year in the business...How time flies! Thanks for the nice comment! :)

Tails...You win! I love it...haha!!! My conscience is clear now...I can relax! :) The Philco sounds nice! Having a UA8 it is probably 1950's. We've been spoiled with our Hackers Neil! Back to point to point wiring and valves nailed into wood again...haha!!! Snap! I finished recapping a player this morning...Haven't got a clue of who manufactured it...Big Celestion Speaker, Sideways on UA8, ECC83, EL84, UY85 rectifier...Big old brute! I would laugh if they were similar players...haha!!! :)

Yes you are right! it was wheels cha-cha-cha. They are quite similar though and after all, it was 40 years ago!

Each channel?...Stereo! Wow...Getting exited now Neil! :) I'm not familiar with the machine...But having a UCL83 per channel should allow for a higher quality cartridge that doesn't have a huge output...Maybe even an SC12H or an SX6M would be better suited? I like to try a few to see what they prefer...The Brute can't take anything more than an SC12M it thinks its a Hacker...haha!!! You keeping the metal rectifier or going silicon? I need to get my Mum volunteering! Well done to your Mum! :)

Thanks Neil! Curiosity satisfied now...haha!!! Just been sorting through the 'Bulb Box of Plenty' I've got one 22 volt Philips bulb...MES type base R10 tubular style...Also bucket loads of 24 volt MES R10 and E10 various current ratings...Should you ever go pop, I'm sure something will work in there...More the current rating than voltage critical...Too high and no light...Too low and you have a flash bulb...haha!!! Keep up the Great work! :)

I do tend to leave the metal rectifiers alone if they are working well...Dad always goes silicon...No if's or but's...haha!!! SC12H - 170mv...SX6M - 280mv...I'm sure you'll make the perfect choice suited to the players needs! Sorry to keep asking questions...I do have the mind of an inquisitive child...haha!!! Even though the 'U' valves normally run without a mains transformer...Some do. Do we have a mains transformer in this beauty?
