1965 Ampeg Gemini I (G-12) vacuum tube guitar amplifier, reunited with its owner after I serviced it. I performed the following work:
- Replaced all nine knobs with brand new knobs since one original was missing.
- Replaced all power supply electrolytic capacitors.
- Replaced the four corroded discrete diodes in the HV power supply with a modern bridge rectifier.
- Tested a representative sampling of the coupling capacitors for DC leakage current. All tested good, indicating that they are high-quality film capacitors rather than paper-and-foil capacitors, so I retained all these original non-electrolytic capacitors.
- Removed the "death cap" and replaced the original 2-wire line cord with a proper chassis-grounded 3-wire power cord.
- Replaced the dead tremolo unit.
- Replaced the dead reverb tank.
- Cleaned all potentiometers with CRC QD Contact Cleaner, followed (after drying) by DeoxIT F5.
- Cleaned the two foot switches (tremolo and reverb) in the foot pedal with CRC QD followed by DeoxIT D5.
- Cosmetically cleaned the front panel and parts of the case.
- Replaced several missing case screws.
- Tested all features.
- Returned the original knobs and the original Ampeg-branded 2-wire line cord (with its plug prongs guarded by nylon zip ties to prevent unintentional use) to the owner.
