Footage from a collection of films I like to call the Jolly Roger collection. Each film has a note written on a piece of paper from the Jolly Roger Motor Inn. I recently learned that the Motel was owned by Disney.
Footage from Disneyland begins at 03:36
No name or address was included with the films.

Try going to Disneyland today. Massive crowds and gargantuan lines as you wait endlessly to go on a ride. Expect to spend a grand or two. Wouldn't it be nice if the Disneyland was like this film?

The problem of years of the company wanting increased profits without bothering to put in more attractions. Most new rides were usually built by tearing down old ones, not expanding the capacity of the park.

I was a sophomore in high school in 1965. Disneyland was a special place, a magical place. A tram would always be available at the park for anyone in need. There were no parking fees. The merchandise was top quality and easy to find. The dancing waters were beautiful. We would all look for Mr. Walt Disney in the park as he was in disguise no doubt checking on everything. This is only a small part of what made Disneyland so special in 1965. Great memories!!

I was born in 1966 a year later. Wow, doesn't seem to be any crowds there that day.

Ladies and gentlemen, that era was the peak of our humanity. My parents were lucky to have lived during those years, I don't belong to nowadays society.

I had to watch this as this was the first year I went to Disneyland & I was 5. The Castle has held up well and it's nice to see no crowds. It's not enjoyable these days due to crowds and high ticket prices.

My fraternal twin brother and I first went when we were four, back in ‘86. We visited multiple times after that since we grew up in Los Angeles County.

From Orange County and Disneyland in Anaheim was of course much different then. It really was a magical place for kids and even adults. I know a lot of people say it was much cheaper back then, but you have to take into account monies made in the 60s. It wasn't expensive but it wasn't super cheap either. Crowds weren't an issue if I remember correctly, or maybe the excitement kept me from noticing. I still have books of tickets from back then shoved in a shoe box somewhere. For most of us who grew up in Orange County, this was a once a year thing, maybe twice counting Christmas. Disneyland during Christmas in the 60s was incredible. My parents would take us to Disneyland in the summer along with Knotts Berry Farm, another awesome place during the 60s in Buena Park. This wasn't counted as a vacation, but an outing that lasted a whole day. I remember sitting at the window of my bedroom watching the Disneyland fireworks over Bastanchury Hill in Fullerton. It was a great time to be a kid.

I swear the park must be violating several fire codes with these crowd levels…but the Anaheim Fire Department is probably paid to look the other way.

First time I went was 1964. I remember all these things and more. I remember riding donkeys and I remember some sort of ride that was kind of like a salt and pepper shaker but not as bad. I could be wrong on that, but definitely rode the donkeys there. I drove the cars we did the submarine ride. I remember the band. I remember the women in the funny outfit. So funny, I have pictures still not too many but some.

That’s right about the time I started to go to Disneyland as a kid. I would have been around 7 years old. I continued to go after I had my own family up to around the year 2000 or so. Fun times back then. I have grandkids now and not sure I want to take them to a Disney Park now.

Yes. They’re at they 10th anniversary. Still need to do fantasyland makeover. Maybe have already done the Mary Blair mural, Tomorrowland “on the move “ redo project. It really needed a refresh. Kind of like today’s situation.

Great old video, almost wish some music or something was put in though as dead silence made me check if my PC sound was on. The old Mickey was the funny part though. They got a kid or something to be the Mickey in the band, as he was about half the height of any one else.

Throughout the 50s they released two to three movies a year. Starting in 1961 it went up to about five to seven a year. Pretty well on the map at least.

No Pixar of course. Hayley Mills was all the rage. The original version of the Parent Trap. Walt was focused on his Florida project.

I try and try to get into the minds of visitors to figure out why it wasn't as crowded. Was admission and a ticket book the same slice out of one's paycheck as today? sure they had no annual passes. This is before new Tomorrowland and Haunted Mansion and Pirates. I assume the NY world's fair is not yet over. Best reason I think the population of SoCal expanded many many X since then. Even with DCA Imagine if Walmart built 6 stores 2 in Ca and 4 in Fla and never ever built any more. Yep they'd be crowded. While other businesses keep building for extra population, Disney hasn't built a new park in 25 years.
@chrishintz1077
@chrishintz1077 Месяц назад
No room to expand, really. They had to take the massive parking lot for dca. The resort is more or less hemmed in. Victim (physically) of its own popularity. Even if disneyland forward project materialises, they’ll still be on the same existing footprint. Will be sacrificing expanses (parking lots) for rides. Nowhere to go but up.

People cut in line constantly, more fights have been breaking out, and for some reason more of these charming “people” think it’s cute to vandalize, shoplift, or try to steal stuff off of the attractions. My friend’s cousin worked security and he says people attempt to try and steal things such as the POTC characters’ hats or the crystal ball from the Haunted Mansion.
