1965 Ford LTD R-Code 427 Video Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #85
This week, we move off the mark from the typical Muscle Car into the world of mid 1960's luxury sedans, only to find that this 1 of 3 ever built 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD is sporting an 427 for power! The high-compression, dual-quad side-oiler V8 is coupled to a 4-speed transmission and a 4.11:1 rear gear, making this car one of the most comfortable drag racers ever built! This luxo-liner LTD is one of the many unique rides in the Brothers Collection.

I must admit that I love cars like this. Cars that theoretically could exist but in practice never really did or cars that shouldn't have existed in that spec but do. Oddball is cool, and when it comes to the muscle car wars in the '60s US it can be very, very rapid...

I've owned 3 1965 Galaxies. A 500 four door with a 390. A 390 powered LTD 2 door and a 352 powered 500XL 2 door. These are the smoothest, best riding cars I ever owned.

I wish he talked a bit about the clear headlamp covers. Extremely rare accessory that only a handful of `65s got.

Wow!!! Only 3 LTDs made it out of the factory with a 427!!!???? That's super rare even the LTDs alone are unique Galaxies! My Grandmother had a 65 LTD but with a 289 and her interior was black cloth and luxurious exactly like this red 427 car has! Thank you for bringing back memories of this LTD

My great grandfather had special ordered a 65 Galaxie exactly like this. Unfortunately, Ford sent him a 352 3 speed on the column instead. Unfortunately they needed the car, so they accepted it. Every time I see this video, I think, there's the car he had ordered but never got.

My Dad had a 65 LTD 390, and my Older brother had a 64 Merc Marauder 390 when I was a kid. That 65 was the smoothest riding car I ever rode in, it just amazed me the first time I rode in it.

The 1965 Ford Galaxie and Mercury Monterey vehicles were the first of what ultimately became the 'Panther' platform chassis lines beginning in 1979 ... the move from leaf to coil rear spring suspensions.

Only 3? Damn. I had a 1965 Galaxy 500 XL/LTD combo trim package in Turquoise Blue inside and out, with the 427 engine and a C-6 automatic, bench seats. It looked very similar but in that god awful blue color. You mean it was a "one of a kind" car back then? It was a factory orderable option! Sigh, wish I had kept it now! Thanks for sharing this, brought me back a ways. I do recall it could do 11.9 standing quarter mile, and might have done better if it had better tires and a modified suspension.
@tonycandido864
@tonycandido864 5 лет назад
Owen Rubin I doubt your car would do 11.9’s in the quarter, unless you had it done up. Those cars ran mostly low 14’s maybe high 13’s from factory!
@jeremythompson9122
@jeremythompson9122 5 лет назад
No way in hell a 65 LTD is doing an 11.9 quarter mile in factory tune. Even an R-Code 427 version. High 12s-Low 13s were possible with slicks and some performance modifications and tuning but 11.9 is virtually impossible. Even the 427 Galaxie factory lightweights didn't run 11.9s and they were probably 300-400 lbs lighter than an LTD
@willthetrill4849
@willthetrill4849 Год назад
Now I wonder how many 65 LTD’s came with the W code 427 4 barrel and the P code 390 “police interceptor”

How in the hell do they find these super-rare cars? Do they purchase them at auction or have people on the hunt for them? Many of these performances engine cars ( unless purchased by an experienced dragster) got totaled in accidents by inexperienced drivers. Although possible, I doubt if all 3 cats still exist.Eventhough he says it’s an “R” code car, he didn’t say if it was the original engine and transmission. Who knows, every Panel on this car may have been replaced in the restoration except wherever Ford put the identification numbers on their cars.

Ford's hottest engines were nasty monsters in the mid '60s. You couldn't order them with automatic trans, a/c, OR power steering. The accessories just wouldn't hold up.............. no nonsense here!

GM made a 427 motor but that in no way means they had exclusivity on cubic inches of air! If you're new to all this, Michael, it's an understandable mistake. In or around 1985, Ford went to designating its motors by Liters. Ford, in V8 form, measured in cubic inches, made a bunch of motors in the 50s/60s/70s and prior. Some are the same block with variations to stroke and bore. What I can recall are the: 265, 272, 289, 292, 302, 312, 351, 352, 360, 370, 390, 410, 427, 428, 430, 429, 460. GM made gobs of motors in the same 3 decades. I don't know them all but I know for sure 283, 302, 327, 348, 350, 396, 409, 421, 427, 455, 500 and MANY more.
