Held on the 2nd October 1966, this was the 7th running of the '500' mile endurance race for production cars. There were 4 classes depending on price and for this year there had to be 250 cars, instead of 100 last year, that had to have been registered in Australia to be eligible.
This year was dominated by Minis. They took the top nine overall positions and finished first in Classes B and C. The BMC (Australia) entered Cooper S of Australian Bob Holden and Finn Rauno Aaltonen won by completing the 130 laps in 7 hours 11 minutes and 29.1 seconds.
A Chrysler Valiant (VC V8 Automatic) rounded out the top 10 and finished first in Class D. The Class A winner was the Datsun 1300 entered by the Nissan Motor Company (Aust.) driven by two Japanese drivers Moto Kitano and Kunimitsu Takahashi, which was 22nd overall.
These are short colour film clips which highlight some of the race.
