It's been a while since I've done metalwork and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. It is a bit of a challenge in my home garage as I do not have some of the basic tools I have at work, like a big brake and a bead roller, but we are going to have to make it work with what we have for now.

It's a real pleasure seeing things come together without thousands of dollars worth of machinery. Thanks for sharing your talent and expertise, Elin.

Like I said before. The weak spot is not connection between the bench and the vice, it is the bench that is not solid enough. I need to get a steel bench eventually

After finding your channel a few years ago when I bought my own Mk 3 GT6 I was inspired to buy my own welder and learn how to weld. I'm still not in your league but I'm happy with the work I've done on various projects. My most recent task was to modify a stainless steel exhaust system by cutting and welding. I wasn't even sure that you could weld stainless with conventional MIG wire but the result seems fine. Many thanks for the inspiration, Elin. 🙂 Richard

It's amazing just how much rust is getting repaired. I thought my GT6 was bad but it's in better shape than the one Elim is rebuilding. Thanks for the videos, they have been very helpful.

Good work and always thinking, Elin. Jade Muttley had a post on making a repair section like that, using a simple wood form and air chisel, with a rounded off shank. Sadly. all of Jade's posts have disappeared off of the web and I hope that we have not lost him to the dreaded Covid. I love watching your work and seeing your skills and analytical thought processes create logical repairs.

My day job is designing the tooling that makes these type of parts. All done with CAD and CNC machines and simulation software. I love watching you make the parts with such basic tools, amazing skill. Love Rusty as well.

Great work Elin.. Sometimes I found the hardest part of dealing with a particularly motheaten body was 'where do you start' .. ? I presume on this occasion, you asked Rusty ! .. Brilliant job on making the new floor pan.. Looking forward to seeing how you did it..

Nice repair. For those thinking its too big a job you need to not overthink it. Break it down into parts finish one part and move to next.

Hi Elin. Don't worry, your own workshop is in its' infancy, bit at a time it will get there. Those spot weld cutters are great when you get used to them. I hated mine at first, but if you drill a 1.5mm (might be 2mm, can't just remember now) pilot hole straight through the centre of the spot-weld for the centre pin to locate into and use some cutting compound to prolong the cutter life they work great. You can always weld up the holes later, but quite often there is no need because they coincide with plug welds. Keep up the good work!

I know, I watched his "walk through" video on his brake, but I have no time for that. I'd rather invest in something a little more solid than what I have, but not too big, as I don't have the space.

You should make a little shed or a shed so you can do bits and pieces or spraying so you don't get spray all over your tools I don't know if you thought about doing some powder coat you can get a resource size oven put the stuff in there to be Stoner so the paint is hard

I've learned to keep my pointer puppy out of the garage. She likes to chew the rusty bits I've scrapped of my '74 Alfa. Still Rusty might not like to eat rust.

I have 3 brakes....( not bragging ) A 8ft sheetmetal brake that does 22 guage full width..( bought used but was reconditioned and painted ) A 4 ft Finger brake that does 22 guage full width ( i bought a new one as they are hard to find used here in my province )...it was reasonable priced...well worth the cost... And a cheap Princess Auto 3 ft brake that can do 16 guage...i bought it about 25 years ago before getting my better brakes..it was cheap..like $300 with a stand ( mine had stand legs that were not welded straight but that was easy to fix )... It still is available and worth the Sale Price ( if you can get it on Sale ) it actually is great to have if 36" is wide enough for ones needs and clamps like a normal brake so quick to use.... I still use it alot and have a big shop so it isn't an issue to keep it... A " Real Brake " makes work fun... I luckily learned on a Big 10 foot Brake 30 plus years ago... Those little brakes " work " but are limited to what you can do and clamping like that would drive me crazy quickly...but you gotta use what you can sometimes.... Tools are an investment in getting jobs done easier and make your work better ...

I don't know have you heard or hear about the laser the Chinese laser to clean rust and a laser welder where it has different kinds of attachments I'm just letting you know have you heard of it but I have watched stuff on RU-vid it looks like a fantastic bitter kit they say this is taking over of MIG or Tig wel and you can use this to weld underwater it will be good to hear your on it

How much do the floor pans cost, inner sills, would save so much time
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
A new floor is $400 US. With shipment, duties and conversion to Canadian $ the cost is 10 times what it costs to make the patches. Also the time involved in replacing a whole entire floor pan is way longer than replacing patches. So the time saved in making the patches vs. buying new pan is wasted in replacing the whole pan. But the money spent on a new pan does not compare to the labor involved in making the patches. I think my way is much cheaper while timewise it is the same.
@ashleyaustin1894
@ashleyaustin1894 2 года назад
@@RustyBeauties But I think I'd prefer a new floorpan rather than a patched, rust converted repaired one in my car. I'm impressed at your skill at fabricating and installing repair sections but when new, good quality panels are available I'd rather have them. I understand the RU-vid audience loves the extra content though.

We lost our 14 year old Female dog ( mother to our 10 year old Male dog ) this summer and got a pup..she looks similar to your dog...more white on her paws and a burst of white on tip of tail...a Great Pyrenees/German Sheperd cross..about 14 months old now and near 50 lbs... What breed is yours?? Very cute pup!!
