1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Roadster-Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #185:
Some say one way to characterize a high performance engine is to compare the ratio of its output in horsepower versus the volume of its displacement in cubic inches. Anything over 1 horsepower per cube and you've got yourself a high performance machine. Our '67 Corvette Roadster sure looks the part, but his does it measure up? See for yourself on this Goodwood Green version from the Brothers Collection!

I knew a fellow back in the day that had a 67 coupe in Goodwood Green. He had the 427 but not the 435 horse version. Beautiful car!

What is amazing to me about this car is it took nearly 40 years until the c6 zo6 corvette finally beat this thing in most powerful corvette. This was right before the clean air act of the 70’s. Seeing something with this much power this old and the fact there was like 40 years between this and when cars like this started making power like this again is amazing. 435 horsepower in 1967 is honestly amazing

I hit the like button immediately, then started drooling on my keyboard. Goodwood Green is my favorite color on the '67s, second favorite is Tuxedo Black, but they gotta have the white stripe on the stinger. 427/435 and sidepipes, nothing sounds better, except maybe the L88s. My only complaint is that this video wasn't long enough! Thanks for sharing that beautiful Vette.

'67 is my favorite Vette, and it's got to have a 427 and a 4 speed. The 427 hood is one of the best looking ever made by anyone. I like the green too. Just a suggestion, wait until after the driving is done to do the close up of the exhaust so that it's good and hot and isn't spitting water out the pipe. I've noticed this on most of the videos.

Those side pipes with the heat shields just look like a million bucks. What a fantastic car!

This video was excellent - literally just prior to watching the video I was wondering about the fascination with posting the cubic inches of an engine as opposed to the horsepower. This video did a fantastic job of explaining why. Also, it's interesting to see the change in taste of colors over the years. This green looks amazing - thanks for this outstanding showcase of an American legend!

Didn't know that about the green being so popular - EXC presentation! What about for other Chevys during the muscle car era, i.e. 69 Z-28 and 70 Chevelle SS(a guy up the street back in high school had a dark green 70 Chevelle SS 396, his brother had a dark red 70 Chevelle SS 454). Yea, the brute L-71 roadster from 67, a mid-year classic that's a favorite among many collectors!

Sweet Vette! Somehow those cars had something today's cars just don't have, I don't know what it is, but today's cars just don't move me like the old cars did.

Would have never guessed any type of green would outnumber other colors, especially black. Love it.

The fiberglass body was a little wavy and black really showed it up so that might have had something to do with it.

I just watched the vid again and noticed a small error. You said that '67 was the first year that the 427 was rated over 1 hp per ci, but actually the early '66 L72 427s were rated at 450 horses until Oct. '65 when they were "corrected" to 425 hp. You might want to look through the collection and see if they have one of these very rare cars, it'd make a great video.
@Epik-hm8ws
@Epik-hm8ws 2 года назад
The 1965 Corvette 396 L78 also had a 425hp rating
@livewire2759
@livewire2759 2 года назад
@@Epik-hm8ws That's true. He specified 427's in the video, that's why I didn't bother to mention the 396, but since you mention it, it does bring up a good point. The reason I put the word "corrected" in quotes is because of this. Every time Chevy introduced a larger engine for the Corvette, it was advertised at higher HP and torque ratings... except for the '66 427. They claimed the 450 hp rating was an error, but the evidence shows otherwise. It's unclear why they changed it, but I believe 450 hp is correct.

The Chevrolet Corvette and the Shelby Cobra 289/427.....the only true sports cars built in America during the 60s...the single best decade in automotive history BY FAR. Actually I think AC was a British company but they were powered by Ford engines

The only thing better than this roadster is a coupe exactly like this. G D I love these rides. I think that this is the only car to devolve rather than evolve.

lol forged pistons rods and crank, solid cam, and imagine still owning a factory aluminum manifold for the 3x2bbl. That car was so cool esp with the side pipe options i love hard tops myself but that is one bad vette. That is my favorite GM color and green

@tomnekuda3818 5 лет назад
Still my favorite body design for the Vette.....only problem that seemed to happen with regularity were tiny cracks in the 'glass where the front hood corners blended into the fenders.....the fenders would have the cracks after quite a lot of driving. They may have corrected it sometime in the run as the later '67's did not seem to develop them.

Not sure about the Corvette specifically but many of the 60s vintage AM/FM car radios were huge clunky things and operated with a separate amplifier. This might account for the 21 pound radio.

My version of this car was Marlboro Maroon over a black interior. Wish I hadn't sold it. Bought it for $5,000. Put a new coat of paint on it, a fresh rebuild of the engine, some carpet. Sold it for $15,000 and thought I was a genius. Of course, 10 years later, it was worth 10 times that. Genius? I don't think so.

I notice a lot of your Chevy's have Tonawanda decals on the motors, are they the real deal?
@jeffreyrubish347
@jeffreyrubish347 5 лет назад
I know your comment is a year old, but Tonawanda built a lot of Chevy motors. My brother had a previously owned '70 Chevelle, not an SS, but had the 350 ci with a tag on it saying "factory blueprinted and balanced in Tonawanda, NY."
@thud9797
@thud9797 Год назад
Tonowanda (NY) built all of the big blocks for the Corvette but not the small blocks, the Corvette small blocks were all built in Flint, MI.

That's the way they came when new. The engines were painted after the intake was installed.
@thud9797

Yep tacky looking and I don't think they were this obvious when the cars were new but this is what a lot of guys do now to make it look like what they think was original. I think it's ridiculous myself to intentionally build in some of the assembly flaws but to each their own.
