In the 80's, I went to a car show in OKC. Helped a guy unload 2 '64 427 cars. Both red. One was a Galaxie the other a Fairlane. Both factory race cars. Oh how I wish I had pictures or that my memory was better.

Ok, so after doing some homework, it couldn't have been a Falcon. Had to be a Fairlane. I'm old. This was 40+ years ago.

Do your numbers also include full-sized Mercurys? I'd really love to find one of those. On a different note - Maybe some of the engines that were produced for any given year were service replacement or OTC sales. As you said, we'll never know. I just found your channel, and I'm looking forward to watching all your videos.

The 427 side oiler engine used in the GT40 had factory ports for running a dry sump oiling system made into the block, as using a wet sump oil pan on a GT40 wasn't possible. Did ANY R code 427 engines come with those ports made into the block ?? Did 427 Cammers have them ?? Or was the GT40 engine block a one off thing ???

There was a dark blue '67 7-Litre parked outside PSNS for years; I never looked in it to see if it was a 4SP or not; I'm in my 60s, and this was twenty-five years ago now that I last saw it, but I knew she was rare at the time; probably a "yardbird's" car.

No there is no VIN on the engine block of this one. I think for the 66-67 Fairlanes there were around 360 built in total. I have all those numbers just not in front of me. Thanks for watching!!

I had all the FE motors except the 427. (332, 352, 390 & 428) I don’t race, but like the big block because when you step on the throttle, it goes, without that small block whine!

Were most 7 liters 428s in 1966 and 1967? They would have had automatic transmission cars since the 427 was all manual transmission equipped. The data would be interesting.

Not only did rust due them in, also the effects of two so called gas crisis. I think your car may be the last solid lifter engine installed in a production car/Galaxie, as l recall seeing a 68 gal w/ the hydrolic 427 being run in Ohio back in the 1980's

Does your registry know about the only local to the Vancouver area 67 427 i'm aware of? It's a Custom two door sedan R code. Ordered new as a race car because they were told there was no 427 Fairlanes for 67. Then the 67 427 Fairlane option was announced and it was too late to cancel the Custom. Apparently the engine was swapped to a 390 and the car sold but it's still around a guy is restoring it.

My mother purchased a 1967 Galaxy 500 XL that was light blue or Frosted Turquoise. She bought it at Soderstrom Ford in San Pedro, CA. Soderstrom sold the dealership to Frank Coletto in the early 1970's. She bought it for a couple of fun reasons. One was that as a kid I thought it was a cool car because it was a 4 speed and she liked that as well. I saw that it had a big engine, but at that time I didn't know the details about the 427 or a 390. She also liked that it didn't have air conditioning. The story was that a guy ordered the car and then wasn't able to buy it. Well my mother bought it. I learned to drive with that car, and took my driving test in this car in 1973. I loved it, and yes, it hauled butt. The only thing I ever did was tune it up, put a PerTronix ignition in it, changed the oil, and put new brakes on it. Sadly she was going to store one day and was sitting at a stop light when a guy in a pick-up truck rear ended her and it was shoved into the car in front of her. She had some broken ribs from hitting the steering wheel, but the war was totaled; it had 34,000 miles on it. Later as I got older and more into cars, I realized how rare of a car this was. She loved it because it rode good, she liked to shift the gears, and it had a big trunk for stuff. I wanted her to get a new car when I turned 16 and give it to me, but she wouldn't. Probably a good thing she didn't, I probably would have gotten killed in it as a 16 year old racer sort of guy. I've tried to find another, but have never seen one for sale. I saw a white one with a blue interior one at the Fabulous Ford Show in Southern California one year and I told him my story and asked him if he would sell it. He chuckled and said that he loved it too much and it wasn't for sale.

Hi Dave, just found your channel and I just wanted to say thanks for sharing all the info on these 67 full-size Fords. I've always admired the 67's for their front styling, much better than the 66's or 68's. I liked them so much I picked one up a little while ago as a project (2-door fastback, 289, auto) and it needs a 'lot' more work than your beautiful example. Looking forward to more content on it!

Neighbor bought a 62 2 door galaxie with a 406 3 2bbl 4 speed. It was yanked and built by Holman Moody and put into a 40 Ford with a 50 mercury rear end and suspension. The body sat in another neighbors yard for 3 decades after he bought it, with a tree growing up around the crossmember... It originally needed a fender replaced on the front. The demise of the engine, it was in a 56 F100 and someone came in his yard and stole the intake and carbs off the engine. But when the HM cam wore out he couldn't get competition cams to grind one that would compare to HM's cam grind.

I took a 100k mile 68 LTD 4 door with a 2bbl 390 and Quaker State carbon buildup encasing the rockers and simply floored it to a 1/4 mile one wheel peel, all throttle. Nothing like the power of a 69 429 Thunderjet, but didn't cost that much new either.....

The 390 with a 282S cam and CJ valves in the C4AE-G heads and an Edelbrock RPM intake and a 3310-1 is a wicked beast. They can push 525 hp no problem, just be sure the pistons are up to TDC and the rods have ARP bolts and 6500-7000 rpm’s is no problem. Don’t polish the rods unless they can be peened. The factory actually peened the rods and they need re- peening if polished, good 5140 forged steel. I wish someone would remanufacture these rods using Fords process.

My Dad went hunting old 390's for a swap his 68 F100 360. He said back in 65 and 66 the 390 and the 352 blocks were pulled into production early and the rings didn't seat at all, on many of them. Some could have the cylinders be honed and they would seat. Many needed a bore job. Chevy had the same problem with the BBC 454 in 1970. My shop teacher said his job was to pull the 454's that came back for that problem. Honing did the trick on some of those, but not all. So "she" may have gotten lucky. Those 66's really did sit exactly like they should. Actually better than the Fairlane and the Falcon. Hers was just ready for a 351W from factory.

Hi Dave, I had a chance to buy a one owner 67 LTD with an FE. I should've bought it at that time (2008). I wonder if a 427 was ever put in that model. It was kind of weird. It looked like a Galaxie, but the roofline wasn't quite the same. And my sister has probably the nicest unrestored 67 Galaxie on earth, 390 2V. Maybe now that her husband has passed, one of the kids will get it and put it in the registry.

Yes in 1967 you could get a 427 in every full size Ford model but I'm not sure about Convertibles. I have never seen or heard of one being built but it happened in other years so I don't see why it would be available in 1967. Thanks for watching!!

@staceyandee. The 2-door LTDs would have had the formal roofline, not aware of any that had the sportsroof. Our host may be more of the expert, but for those years in which the LTD was a separate model, the Galaxie XL had the same tailights, front fascia, and much of the trim as the LTD, rather than the Galaxie 500. So I had generally thought of the XL as a sporty LTD.

G'day from Australia, Absolutely loved this video and the numbers breakdown. So many questions. Q1 Is there a book you recommend regarding full size Fords with great pictures & information ? Q2 Can you get the 7 litre option in say a 289 V8 Galaxie, did it have to be a 427 or 428 ? Just can you clarify you mentioned there were 89 Full size Ford's in 1967 with 427 V8. But you said 70 were R Code 70 were Q Code. Can you please clarify what you mean it is that I just like numbers. Would you consider in all the years you have been dealing with these 427 Ford's this particular Galaxie your all time ultimate Full Size Ford ? Do you know of any 1967 Full Size Ford 427 in a convertible? Sorry for all the questions, but I just love these Full Size Fords & they are extremely rare here in Australia in a Hardtop configuration, there is just something about them that make them head & shoulders above anything GM & Mopar & I am a die heart Mopar Guy. Last question what is your name. Cheers Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

Thanks very much for watching. The 7 Litre option was only available for the 427 and 428 engines which were "7 Litres" In 67 Ford made 89 Full Size Fords with a 427 engine. There were 2 engine options the "R code" 425 horsepower engine with 2x4 carburetors and the "W code" 410 horsepower single 4 barrel carburetor. Of the R code engines there were 70 built and of the W code engine there were 19 built. These cars were definitely, in my opinion, the best of the full size Fords built. There were no 1967 Full Size Ford convertibles built with the 427 engine. Hope that answers your question and thanks again for taking the time to watch my videos, I appreciate it!
