To separate the case halves I've used a wood chisel with good success. Tap all around the case gasket slow and easy. Usually on the second time around they'll start to come apart. The wedge shape of the chisel makes a nice even job of dividing the transmission.
Hey i just recently got a 308-8 Wheelhorse and I know next to nothing about these mowers. I was wondering what kind of transmissions are in them. Thanks!
Hello, make sure there are no sharp edges or burs on the axle, lightly oil the shaft end and the seal, carefully slide the seal over the axle end to the case, from here you maybe able to start setting the seal with your fingers, once you have it started in the case take a correct size punch and "lightly" I mean "lightly" tap in a circular motion around the seal to ever slowly seat it in the case. You can accomplish the same if you have a large enough socket that will go over the axle end and deep enough to reach the case. The big thing is not to distort the seal when tapping it in. Just go slow it will work. Thank you!
Without sounding like a jerk... it could be anything, LOL... but if the shifter arm moves into each other gear I would think it will be an issue with the 2/3 shift fork
Hey guys' any idea what makes a WH 412-8spd trans make a click/clatter noise after mowing an hour or so as soon as he shuts its engine off? We can't hear it while engines running only as he shut it off he will hear this clatter noise as the trans is slowing down once power is stopping? It sounds similar to gear teeth noise in or near the trans but its not a grinding or binding like if your if missing a gear or forcing shifter say into reverse or 1st without stopping a non synchronized trans nothing like that sound, not at all. What is this sound? {{The sound my friends 412-8 is like a clatter sound only on shut down? Its like the old Ace of spades ball or playing Card/Clothes Line trick in your old Bicycle Spokes as a kid, just not as loud maybe half as loud as that sound but its a very similar to that sound and its either in/near the trans..lol}} If he tries showing it again, shut tractor on/off again to show someone it won't make the noise again at all so it has to run awhile to do it again he says? I only heard a small sample when he shut her down the first time last night but we let it run about 10 minutes then shut it down again and it never did it when he was trying to show me. He bought this tractor about 4-5 years ago and the original owner had changed the transmission pulley down to about 4" or 5" size pulley he said, its front engine pulley still looks original? It just started making the clatter noise this summer and other than the noise its all that he noticed from it? Like I said, its not very loud, its not as loud as card/spokes, the cards are louder than this noise is but it certainly is very similar to that old card sound I must agree its just about the same sound imo, as the engine winds down is the only time he hears it. Fluid levels are still fine, he changed trans fluids in it 2 yrs ago. Thanks
Hello, i have a 1974 wheel horse c`120, 8 speed tractor, the seals are leaking on rear end, replaced axle seals then tried to change the brake hub sealwhich i removed the bolt washer but the hub won't come off, the shaft, dose it just pull off or am i missing something? is there a link for doing this??? help, also the input shaft seal proceedjure if pooible, thanks
I have the same model and it come off with just a little force. I think that I pushed a screw driver between the hub and the case, (no hammering required) being careful to keep the hub parallel with the case. It didn't have a set screw as the input pully did.
