Literally LITERALLY just got my driver side full quarter from AMD a couple weeks ago and doing this exact project. Yes, on a 68 Charger.

Great video. Maybe after all the sheet metal is replaced you could do a time lapsed video of all the panel replacements so it recaps all your hard work in one video

I used to own a 1968 Dodge Charger years ago it was gold in color and had the Factor 383 cu V8 in it. It was the first car I ever got a speeding ticket it luckily I backed off going 130 mph the cop got me at 95. I am glad to see you are taking great pains in restoring this one. Oh and I subscribed to your channel.

The diesel should let you get it apart. I remember making that comment on the 318. Lol. Great work. My dad had a Plymouth fury with a 383 and that boat would fly.

I just did a back end on a 68 Charger and float your deck filler panel to the last part to weld after the quarters are fit and you can set your gaps all around . Before you weld, with the deck filler loose make sure that your REAR WINDOW MOLDINGS fit without gaps and binding spots . The lower corner moldings are the worst fit on the curve and match the panel to the moldings . I just went through this on mine . PIA.

When you get to the dutchman panel, be aware that it is 1/8 short on the drivers side. Or the flange that meets the quarter panel. Not a whole lot you can do. Just have to make it look right.

It's amazing your basically building yourself a brand new 68 charger I've been watching you since the beginning kudos to you sir and the little fella for his time out there too lol great job! Since the original engine is kaput you should 383 4 speed that sucker that would be so cool!

I I replaced 2 quarter panels on my Aussie 76 Fairlane 35 years ago, the spot weld tool removal I used was a ZIP CUTTER- made my life a whole lot easier? You ever heard of them?

So awesome. I've been waiting for this episode. I'm not sure if your 68 has the same marking as my 70 but the driver gutter rail for the trunk has the VIN stamped on it. Hidden by the deck lid weather strip.

i've used a belt sander to burn through the spot welds. it works real nice

It’s amazing that you can see the dip line so clearly where the cars were dipped for corrosion protection. I saw some pics of the process on an episode of GYC where they had some pictures from Tony D’Agostino that showed how only the bottom half got dipped. Your car definitely shows that line extremely well! Great video as always!

It's better to grind out the spot welds .than to use an air chisel. No distortion. A air belt sander works great.

Wow, lot of progress there. I wonder whether you have considered peeling off the roof skin to address the rust underneath that in the structure? It seems quite evident after removing the quarter that there is a decent bit of surface rust at the least on most of that roof inner framework.

Hey Rusty is it Patton from Waco sorry I ain't been up with you in awhile I do appreciate the work you've been doing on the old goat I think you're doing a great job on it and I know it is going to be badass when you're done but like most of the rest of your followers I've been chomping at the bit for you to get back on the charger and I got to admit I Got A tingle in my lower region when you clip that rear quarter panel on can't wait for the next episode keep up the good work brother

Man, you're just fearless the way you deconstruct that sheet metal! Do you know how many of us wouldn't put that back together?....a lot I dare say. It staggers me how well triangulated, well lapped and reinforced these large Mopar unibodies were. Gave many of the Mopars severe weight advantages over their heavier body on frame competition. Hope that 383 unlocks for you, but don't sweat it if it doesn't, they made millions of low deck big blocks. A 400 with a 440 crank gives you a 451 that can turn 7000 rpm and makes unbelievable torque(horsepower means nothing in heavy cars). I hope AMD is punching your sandwich card with each purchase. Dunno where you find the time, but glad you do. Carry on doing it right. Malcolm Ottawa Valley

i replaced the passenger side quarter on a 68 charger could'nt believe how much lead was on the sail panel seam big mess on the ground all gaps with other panels looked perfect on mock up with cleco fastners only issue was spot welding inner fender arch to inner wheel well there was a gap had to extend oem wheel well to match aftermarket fender. those quarter panels are huge

I remember you doing that rear rocker work. Funny what else you find when you start pealing back the onion! Looking forword to seeing your work on the inner wheel housing, package tray, and deck filler. You have your work cut out for you brother!! PS...some of those factory spot welds are a bit shaky....

Hot Damn … waited so I can see it on the big screen, Great great job Sir! Question - or rather an observation - re: the door jamb, when removing the overlap of the rear quarter, I saw someone tacked-on support rods to the jamb so it wouldn’t move at all (or hardly), because it would save time from lining up the door later (like bracing a body before removing it from the frame). Maybe something to look into if you need to do it on the GTO? Again, amazing job, and Keep On Keepin’ On (KOKO) God Bless 😎

Ive been following and enjoying the whole build while stuck in doors with covid. Wanted to comments before but not got round to it. Any one thing i notice is when your drilling out spot welds why dont you use a spot weld drill bit it will ony open the top panel and not drill all the way through. This would avid having to use the air chisel like you have on the front lip of the rear quater. Any way keep up the great work.

That 1/4 panel does look nice for sure what alot of work your putting into this car, l almost could have bought a 1 owner 69 charger for what i could see in his picture looked pretty good shape, 2 weeks ago just wasn't quick enough to get my offer in it was the light blue with the white vinyl roof it was posted in face book farmers market place here in Canada are you ready for this $3,500 and yes drive able young kid had it he didn't know what the value was and what these are selling for,l'm still blue and purple in the face for not getting quick enough on the add.

Are you watching Chris Birdsong aka JUNKERUP on RU-vid restoring General Mayhem for David Frieburger? Some good tips if you are planning to put fat rubber in those rear wheel tubs.

I thought the inner support pieces looked pretty good all things considered. Even if they are a little pitted a wire wheel and some POR-15 should take care of them just fine.

I think your missing the support bracket on the upper quarter rear window area, that little stub should go all the way to door jam.

Just curious, but how do people replace the metal on the inner side of the sail panels/ C pillars? Does that come with the full quarter panels?

Love what your doing but throw that air hammer in the trash get an east wood belt sander for spot welds save you a lot head aches and less hammer dolly work it gets in to tight spots make life easier

You should have used a cut off wheel and worn down the weld first before air chisel was used

dodge probably could have dipped that whole body in some decent rust preventative for ten bucks 1968 dollars

You are using the wrong chisel for slicing metal you need a flatter chisel and the one your using is for spot welds only that’s why it is v in middle

there won't be much of the original car left.
