You two are just fantastic salt of the earth people! Truly appreciate your character and love for our country and made in America products! Seeing grandpa driving his car again was 👍🏻👍🏻 ❤️❤️
Since i watch this i know is you who allow them to work on that beautiful Eldorado,Maybe next time you let them revive that Buick sitting next to it in that barn-garage.. it would be really awesome content for you and for us the viewers ! (no need to respond to me just think of it and consider might be possible in near future since like us many people watch from Europe these cars revivals !) maybe after that you do a trip vlog to your grandpa with that Buick and he will drive that too..)
Absolutely one of the most beautiful and iconic Caddies ever made. It's in such remarkable shape that only a full restoration is the way to go. Keep this amazing piece of Americana...it would be an excellent upgrade from the Torino.
What's the towing capacity? I'll take the same year Mustang, Valiant, or Rambler American over that any day unless I need to tow, in which case I'll take the Suburban or a van. I have a '76 Trans am to revive though, so I'm hoping the procedures and carbs are similar. The Torino is far better but earlier Torino wagons were better still. The best Caddies were hearses and ambulances, and the Cimeron, but that's not saying much when the G10 van blew them all away for room and comfort.
@@alan6832 LOL. People don't generally buy a Cadillac for its towing capacity. They buy a land yacht like this because it is second to none for a superb ride and a luxurious travel experience. A Rambler American would be like riding in a buckboard compared to that Caddy.. If you're touring cross country, mid-sized cars get very old, very quickly. I've owned and driven both a "68 Caddy and a Torino and there is simply no comparison
@@Martin.WilsonAnd I have toured across the country in Rabbits, Tercels and cabover semis, and view that kind of ride and comfort as an elitist waste, possibly worth money but not something a respectable person should ever do personally, unless possibly very old a frail. Rigging for towing would likely involve stiffer rear springs, which would mean a harsher ride anyway, like the semi. Yes he could flip it to a frail elitist if the blue book say to, but it is no place for a healthy, skate boarding young mechanic, and it's far too powerful for a frail old elitist anyway, who should use a 250 inline 6, leaving just pimps.
@@Martin.Wilson That Caddy would also give Jennifer serious problems with having to set confused men straight on a daily basis. Again, anyone so delicate as to need that pillowy ride doesn't need half the power, making the car useless.
I was drawn to the video for how the Eldo was going to come out cleaned up and running, but discovered the true gem is Jen, who shares the same enthusiasm as you do for old cars! That is very rare indeed.
Jen is an adorable and excellent woman. She has an adventurous spirit and she puts up with anything! I don't know if any woman of mine would be as amiable to those accommodations! Great video as always
@@FamDek she is attractive, she likes to pitch in with projects, she is funny, she sings well, she's a dog lover, IDK...she checks alot of my personal boxes. I've only seen her through a limited lense of this RU-vid channel but, excellent seems appropriate. 😉👍
@@rm25088do your homework bud it doesn't matter if jen is in the videos or not the viewing figures are always extremely similar and anyway they are a team and loyal viewers of the channel watch for the content the chemistry the whole package
@@rm25088 yeah...I think he knows how well he married. A solid life partner is the most important element in the building of a successful life...not just a RU-vid channel
How tempted was Chris to hang and try and get all of the vehicles going? Another good one folks. Chris, from an old guy Jen is a keeper for sure. Thanks for the traveling adventures.
@@rogersmith7396 perhaps...but I know ALOT of guys who Love their collection of, this that or another, that are only collecting dust. Time & circumstances often lead to neglect. Even with our most VALUED possessions.. AND Even with some relationships. 😟 So... I'm not willing to accept that he didn't care about that old Caddy..👍😉
The grandpa at the end was just happy to ride again in his Cadillac 😊😊😊 You 2 put a smile on his face and his grandson witnessed it as a nice memory. GREAT episode! Thanks! Jen should be a singer...
Chris you did a great job getting that caddy El-dog up and running and cleaning it up, it hurt my feelings the way the old man treated you by keeping the car after all your hard work. I enjoyed watching you resurrect this classic caddy. I'm a cadillac man owned 6 and still have two. Keep on truckin' man!
Hmmm, how is it I started this video but paused it early into it not returning 'til now? Well I still don't recall the why but after the hood popped open in this go around I decided to pause and scroll thru the comments to find out if the car was taken back to be in our favorite couple's collection. It appears not... and I just think that is a shame. I don't know if Chris and Jen wanted to own this car since I haven't watched the epilog through after the comment I read made it sound as if the old man/car dealer just used C & J and then wouldn't strike a deal to sell to them the car. So I may not continue watching, my bad. Many peeps liked the video not surprisingly as the pair are very good at producing entertaining and informative content. But for now I am a little disillusioned by the initial first contact with the grandson that to me seemed almost to have sport a superior demeanor towards Chris. I have a fondness for the Eldo and I don't want to sully my adoration for this particular model year by a disappointing end.
I had a 71 Eldorado convertable that was dodger blue with a white top and white leather interior. That old boat rode like dream. As with most of my old vehicles I wish i would have never let a fella talk me into selling it, but good memories cruising it around. Great job you guys are the best!
I am the Cadillac enthusiast you were talking about. 😂😂 This car is on my bucket list. My hope is to find a black slick top 68- 67 and 68 are my favorite years by far, but 68 probably edges it out by a nose hair! The TH425 trans is not only very innovative being front wheel drive, it was also very reliable. Basically a TH400 split in half with a big old beefy belt drive for the output section. Those quarter windows slide back into the bodywork by the way…. So cool. Every 472/500 I’ve ever touched came back to life without much of a fight. Thanks for bringing it back for the old man, you can tell how happy he is about it!
Trans was a TH425… basically a TH400 turned sideways. Torque converter was connected to the drum housing with a huge chain. Which was what you were hearing knocking while starting the first time. A typical GM rearmed was bolted directly to the back/front of the trans with CV axles attached. Great transmission.
My first car was a '73 Eldorado, a coupe like this one. The taillights were thinner, but not as sleek as the '67s. It had the 500cu in, man what torque! It was what I called midnight blue. It was such a deep dark blue, that in most light it looked black. It also had this cool display inside just above the rear window. When you looked in the rear-view mirror at it, you could see a multiple red lit indicator for when your lights were on, when you used the turn signals and applied brakes. I am in north, so the front wheel drive was great for driving in snow. Unfortunately, like most cars in the north, rust took its toll. Thank you for this will it run, Chris. It brought back some excellent memories.
And the little lights on each fender..they were the light monitoring system....when a bulb burned out, you would know by the little light being dark. Very cool looking at night.
I've literally bumped into your channel like 2 days ago and you´ve become one of my favorite car related channels/channels. Your vibe is just amazing. Wish I could do what you guys do bringing these old treasures back to life and exploring amazing places along the way. Keep it up guys!
That's what happened to me as well. I just don't understand that there was a verbal contract to sell the car then the Old timer went back on his word so he can now get more $$ for it due to his very hard work. 😕
Chris and Jen this is the reason why your channel is in my top 5 oof favorites to watch and follow! I enjoy your adventures when your on vacation! And you always find interesting things!
If Jen is really like this in real life (meaning not acting for the content); Chris has the woman that Everyman dreams off. Down to earth, humble, and beautiful, what else could a guy ask for. ❤❤
Another great video. I hope ya'll are doing well and had a good trip! That last clip of the grandpa driving his old Caddy really put a smile on my face.
That thing is built like a tank, but looks like a spaceship! I WANT ONE! Can't afford one, but you get it... The color is crazy in that sunlight, and the way it rides and sounds... it's smooth like no other car EVER!
I was quite certain Jen was going to trade up from the Eli to the Eldo. -lol That would have been a great cross country trip! The 60’s were quite the decade for GM styling across the brands. That Oldsmobile 88 and Pontiac(?) rear at the end were works of art. Awesome vid! Thank you, Chris and Jen, for all of your hard work.
Yep, my dad is always on the lookout for a 1965 Olds Delta 88, because he likes the way the rear end looks with the one year only taillights. My grandparents had one, but unfortunately the engine blew while they were on a business trip, so it was traded for a 70’s caprice. He always talks about how he got the job of cleaning and waxing the car on the weekends. I hope he finds one someday, I don’t know if it’s low production, or not too many of them survived or a combination of both, but it’s hard to find a decent one for sale. I think the 65 Olds Holiday?, or wildcat?, may have also had those tail lights.
my dude told her not to stand in front of the plug holes and then .00001 seconds later... stands directly in front of the plug holes and ... gets sprayed with lube. i love shade tree mechanics so much... you guys make me happy.
Wow, what a nice find. What took my eye though is that 64 Buick Wildcat convertible. That thing looks like it's a driver. Thanks for another great video. I love the way you two do these startups.
Hello Chris and Jen! That was a really nice video , I love the Eldorado! What an awesome old car and the ending was unexpected and awesome too with Grandpa driving his Eldorado! Thanks for taking us along and thumbs UP!!
The AC units in those 60s and 70s Caddy's were amazing. You could cool a small house with one. And it was cold as you wanted it in about a minute. And the temp control was accurate down to about one degree.
Sure hope if they don't keep it, that it goes to a good home. To take care of a caddy like that you need real dedication. My heart just melts watching this. Thanks for the show, Chris and Jen
What a car! I was about 20 when those style of cars were being sold. Land yachts, we called them. Highway cruisers that would cruise at 80mph like you were on a very pillowy cloud. Huge back seats, as many of you will fondly remember.
As someone who grew up in the 70s/80s reading mainly about British and European cars, there are few American cars whose styling really appeals to me but the "boat-tailed" Buick Riviera is one and this Cadillac is another. I love the razor-edged styling on these, so bold and decisive, it's a fabulous looking car. Keep up the good work, this is a great channel and your girlfriend has a fantastic singing voice!
I worked at Sears in the late 70's Sears made battery besides the Diehard which was top of the line. the Diehard were released in 67 .The caddy would have come original with a AC Delco battery GM bought AC Delco in 1929
I was sorry you put forth so much fine effort and left empty handed. You and Jen are a class act. Keep up the great work! I knew early in to the show this was a great find.
I bought my 70 for $2500 and it was a cosmetic wreck. I have seen them on ebay for $900. The market for these is very thin. Few want them. One sold by me for $39,000. The highest I have seen was a custom with all options for $55,000. I would like to get $15,000 out of mine. They get as good of gas mileage as a modern pickup truck. Around 16 mpg on the freeway. The trans was used on the GM motorhome. I have never heard of one breaking in an Eldo or Tornado. Parts are expensive. It kills me to see them parted out. I used to drag race my moms and always beat 396 Chevelles and 383 Road runners. I was out top ended by a 454 Monte Carlo on the freeway. They will smoke the front tires.
Love these old Eldorados! My grandmother had one and it was one of the first cars that I drove. I put a carburetor on that car and it really brought it to life! It has been sluggish for years before that.
Wow what a fantastic car, always amazed how with just a few tools you work your magic. I live in the U.K. and really enjoy your videos and road trips but where is Gus??? I was born in the sixties and grew up watching the American t.v. series and that's where I got my love of all these great cars. You can keep all these electric motors and give me one of these any day of the week. Best wishes to you both.
Plus London fees. Let er rip. We don need no stinking public transportation. Now buy an RV bus. A couple of guys here have Mack pickup trucks. Boats are much worse.@@alanparr7233
I gotta say, I really love watching videos where you guys are together and you go on adventures and you make cars run right Again, You are such a great couple. Watching you guys bring such joy to me, it just makes me feel so good about the world. Thank you so much for these videos. You guys are the best.👋👋👋👋💌
Heck yeah that's awesome what a beautiful car. The fact that you got this going for his grandpa is even better. You got a chance to drive it but he got his classic back and I'm sure he'll enjoy the time spent cruising around and showing it off. Also you're completely right we watch to see that beautiful lady you are hanging out with! She's got such an amazing singing voice and she's always smiling. You're lucky man. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
I love your road trip/ will it run videos. The bars you visit are just too cute. Man I’d love to be able to do what you do. The old cars are too cool. Just cruising along in the sunshine. Just awesome Chris. I’m so glad I found your channel 😎👍🏻🚗
I had a 69 Eldorado, and the primary cosmetic difference between the 68 & 69 are the grills. Both have beautiful body lines. Mine was a lighr greenish blue with a white vinyl top and white interior. Miss it!
Chris, you and Jen make the perfect couple.....I've never laughed so hard in my life. The Three Beas Lodge, that was scary place. That mouse trap stuck to your sandal was hilarious. Love you guys, stay safe out there.
Beautiful Caddy!! 😎 I would put a value on it of at least $17,000 and that might not even be enough. Definitely a keeper! Great work getting her back on the road!
@@twinsonic I’m thinking more along the line of $4k, so you and I are not too far apart. You can never get the original paint or upholstery back on or in it. That alone drops the value way down. On the other hand someone, who has the money, would probably pay $10k upwards.
I used to have a '76 Eldo convertible that I took around the country in 1993. 500ci motor, that thing could pass anything but a gas station. Watching you guys ride that '68 Eldo around, I still have flashbacks of driving my car on desert highway in a sunset. There is nothing like that.
You guys are great...love the video.. They were great rides. I had a champagne yellow 68 eldo, with black leather interior, and a black padded faux alligator top. To this day one of my favorite, best looking, best driving cars of all time. Even the coolray glass was the deepest blue green, everything was so luxurious, and the quality was incredibly deluxe, pretty awesome really. Thanx for the smiles and reminding me as well. ✌️❤️😁
Hi, Chris and Jan. This is another excellent video, like all of your others. When I saw Jen driving the car at the end of the video, I thought she should be singing "On the Road Again. Just can't wait to get on the road again." I knew one day I'd get Willie into one of my comments.
Thank you for your contributions to my RU-vid University course in auto mechanics. Thanks to you and a few others, I have managed to do more mechanically in the last few years, then any time previously. This is a great channel. You guys are awesome. You get great information. Thanks.
1968 I was a grocery bag boy and took this older womans food out to put in the trunk of her Eldorado. When I closed the trunk it didn't latch so I grabbed the trunk lid with my fingers only to be educated to the fine FISHER engineering 'auto close' trunk. Thank goodness there is a thick rubber seal that glamped down on my fingers and could slip them out. Wow that was close.
I did a valve job on one of them and the only thing I had to get under the car for was to pull the drain plug when I changed the oil . Super easy job except for dealing with the weight of the heads and intake manifold . I'd love to have the car and drive it every day . Such a great road car that drives and rides like a Dream . Great video . Really dig the accomidations where y'all spent the night and the local tavern was super cool . Little towns like that have some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and I've been in a hell of a lot of them .
My lovely wife and i really love this channel... Cheers to Jen and Gus 👍 If you ever visit Germany or especially Bavaria, you're welcome. Greetings from Bavaria...
New to your channel and just watched your Ford Elite road trip and loved it! Then the Eldorado episode came on and had to watch. You two are such a fun couple 😊 The Cadillac actually has headlight covers and should be fixed, they make the front end, vacuum operated so most likely a check valve or the actuator for the headlight doors. Will be watching more! Thank you for showing cars that I grew up with, brings back great memories.
Absolutely beautiful car!! It's a shame that most of the styling and luxury have been regulated out of existence now. Great job cleaning and resurrecting it!!
You guys both liked the car so much (as I do); was disappointed you hadn’t snatched it up! Would of been great to see you make the additional repairs and enjoy it!
At the end of this video showing all the old cars , just imagine at one time all those cars and tractor and trucks came off the assembly line brand new. GREAT VIDEO!👍👍👍
It's crazy how much this channel has grown. I have to say I am going to miss it being a smaller channel and having the interaction that you get from a smaller channel. There is now going to be so many comments that there is no way he could view them all. I have 80k members in my own group and I do not have the time and ability to see all the comments that get posted in the group so I can only imagine how .6 million subs is.
