How about a video on the Pontiac GTO behind this car. Show us the flaws in that paint job and what you learned. I think you said it was painted 7 years ago. Thanks! I learn so much on your channel!

Excellent idea!!! and it was about 16 years ago I painted that car, but it does have value for durability understanding and what did and did not work. Difference in blocking technique and so on. Man the gears are turnin in the head. Where’s is my orange Mountain Dew 😎

Getting so close to color Jon. Think I'll have to try some of that OMD for it's possible motivation properties.

It does look bad but that is normal. The lower windshield chrome trim covers that area up fortunately

Hi Jon., excellent instructional series on prep.. You haven’t mentioned a bath for the old girl. Do you wait until the last sanding session to wash her down prior to paint?
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
you have also probably noticed that in don’t wet sand either. I normally don’t wash the car with soap and water till after cutting and buffing stage. I used to wash the cars prior to paint but had more issues with water coming out of the strangest places. so I quit doing that.
@charlieseidelmann6702
@charlieseidelmann6702 Год назад
No, actually I had not noticed. Interesting thought process.
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
@@charlieseidelmann6702 i do wipe the entire body down with cleaner prior or painting of course.

Question. Why don't you use a guide coat when sanding the primer? It quickly shows highs, lows and even ripples.
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
With this particular primer it changes color drastically as soon as you sand it so it’s really not needed. It’s like a built in guide coat. The camera doesn’t pick it up nearly as well as it is in person
@Danno74Z
@Danno74Z Год назад
@@VinylVillageGarage Thank you for the fast reply. Another quick one. You mention in an earlier video that this primer is thick and had to use a #2 paint tip. I don't have a #2 my largest is 1.7. Does the manufacturer allow some thinning? Thank you?
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
Good question, the tech sheet says it can be reduced with 5% polyurethane reducer. BUT that is if you are spraying in temps over 80 degrees to slow the curing time. That tells me it can be slightly reduced but cooler temps will take much longer to cure.
@Danno74Z
@Danno74Z Год назад
I did some research and some thinning is allowed but it's for temperature only. Not for changing tip size.
@Danno74Z
@Danno74Z Год назад
I went to the Clausen site to read up on that primer. That primer is not inexpensive! Holy Moly $329 a gallon. WOW.
