Torque to yield twice bolts. I love those! Lol! I am glad you made this video series. I learned a lot about these diesels just watching this . Hopefully you might be open to giving me some pointers when I tear into mine!!!
That light is a generator warning light or they are using it as a diode for a 12v system. If you just turn the key to accessory the light should glow. After the motor starts and the alternator excites it should go out. So basically it could still be a warning if your alternator was failing. And it keeps the alternator from back draining the ignition circuit when the power is off. Of course that’s what I would say on an 8N . This tractor should have a gauge cluster with warning lights so I’m not sure what this stand alone warning light was being used for?
I think you are right about that power steering pump on the “parts tractor” I believe they switched to the vane pumps in the late 60s. Or maybe they changed to a piston pump. ?? The pump on the parts tractor is a more desirable pump if I’m not mistaken. They are pretty easy to rebuild them also. I had one leaking and mixing with another pump and mixing with the engine oil. My buddy caught it though before it trashed the engine. But anyway that newer steering pump is a better design and easier to work with.
