In this video, I install condenser for the vintage air kit. Ran into a few small problems, but I got it figured out. The Mustang is making progress.

I have installed a few of the Vintage Air systems. The first one we screwed the pooch and had the condenser upside down. I feel your pain. I'm learning to make videos and edit content now. You make it look easy so I know your good at it.

I have been in the HVAC business for 40+ years. you will be ok to go ahead and hook up the drier. just make sure you pull a vacuum on the system and you can leave it like that for as long as you want. I installed my vintage air in my 69 camaro and it sat for 2 years like that and worked fine.

Unfortunately I don’t have any way to vacuum it down.

Nice job Barry....at some point I will likely install this on a 67 and your videos will definitely be a great reference

The hardest part of this process is starting a job and then having to let it sit ( dryer ) until later on. But once again a great video. Always good to see the steps before going at it

gotta get a set of crowfoot wrenches to adapt a standard torque wrench into an open end wrench. had to use them for a couple of applications. but the ole german method of "guten teit" works too.

Use a crows foot with a torque wrench. :)

Wise move not uncorking the dryer now. As always, when using aftermarket parts it seems they require just " a little bit" of modification. I usually chuckle too when making a minor screw up but it is followed by a muttered dumba__ to myself.

Same. My dad called me that a lot, so it’s a default response.

Glad you are going to put your twist on the front valance.

Great video Barry, loved the little monkey! Instead of a fan shroud I would recommend looking into an electric fan or two. Looked like that core support hole might become a slot. Just a little “peanut gallery” input. Thanks for sharing!

I will be doing some research on the fan idea.

Your videos are such a treasure of troubleshooting every single thing that can possibly go wrong and explaining why you chose what you did. It's so helpful for people I'm sure

When my 65 got it’s classic auto air 15+ years ago, I had a friend install it. I didn’t realize what a job it was when I had asked him to do it. It was done while the engine swap was being done. Heater coar was leaking, so it seemed like the best time to do it all. I didn’t realize back then how much extra work I was asking him to do. Nice job at showing what is involved in this process.

Good video on this and what you're wanting to do with the front valance will be worth seeing thumbs up 👍.

Did trial fit of my VintageAir on my 68 Mustang (W/Factory Air). Had just picked up new 3 core radiator to cool a 390 that might end up (gulp) traffic! Anyhow..the triple core does project forward (towards the bumper, so there is very little space to accommodate the condensor on the Engine side of the radiator support. I flattened (hammer/dolly) the 4 Tabs that the condenser attaches to.. but still not enough space. Ended up with 1/4x20x1" bolt head and washer on the Radiator side of the support, and a the rest sticking forward. had another washer, a jam nut then 2 more washers on either side of the condenser mounting tabs. not very elegant but the 1/4 x 20 hex was pretty close to radiator fins. The CC397 radiator has squared off top tank so the radiator support bracket doesn't work. Sad realization. The lower saddle doesn't match the lower tank contours either. should have gone with OEM style tanks! Looking at the Ford Contour fan shroud combo that seems a close match to the radiators size. Going to trial fit the hood latch support and grill to make sure there is clearance. Good idea on painting aluminum black. Hate what corrosion does to alum tubes! Great presentation! A few more to go after this episode.

A crows foot is how you can torque tube fittings without buying specialized A/C technician tools. Also, I wonder with the condenser being upside down, if that could have caused the fitment issues? A shroud is a must down south so you don't over work the compressor. (fuel economy will suffer)
@JoDaddysGarage

Good advice. I had the same clearance issue with the condenser installed either way. I’m looking into shrouds or a whole new radiator setup.

I would have to paint those lines and drier brackets to match the everything else. I really hate seeing all that stuff thru the grille on the outside. At least if its all black it will blend in.

Superb video Barry! I didn't think I'd see part 4 come along so quickly. So glad to see the challenges and how you fabricated the solutions, especially to those brackets. I have a non AC car, but did cut out the core support square knockout before sending it to paint. Kinda wishing I didn't do that now after seeing the round hole it asks for. I'll have to think on that one. Thank you again for another fantastic video!
