Another car my parents had in the mid 70’s. Theirs has a 383 engine. Dad bought it for $300 bucks (everyone getting rid of gas pigs after OPEC gas crunch).They had it 3-4 years, gave it to an older brother and a few man moths later the back end froze up on him totaling the car. It was a very comfortable car to drive with 5 kids in it!

My father was a Chrysler man so, besides his optioned out 64 New Yorker, he bought (a smaller?) car for my mother, a 68 Plymouth Sport Fury! What a wonderfully roomy car that had plenty of giddy up. He ended up giving it to one of my brothers in the mid 70 (my mother replaced it with a Datsun 410) and the rear end ended up freezing up ; then he junk it. A beauty for sure! Thx Lou!

That's a great ride with in a cool shade of blue. My '72 Challenger R/T had a 318 and the Slap-Stick Torque-Flight. Buckets, console, AM/FM, but no AC or power windows either. Tawny Gold Met, Frost vinyl top, Gold vinyl interior. Bought it in '84, from the original owner, who got it new from LaGrange Dodge in IL. Drove it from my first duty station in Bremerton to San Diego, then to Dallas, on to Houston and back to San Diego. Smooth and solid that whole extended trip. Then it took me between Camp Pendleton and San Diego a couple of times each week and several times to LA. I never had a mechanical issue with that car. Just changed the oil, belts, hoses, and gave it a tune up when I was bored. No leaks either. The rockers started rusting an traded it for a '76, fully loaded, 54k, Anniversary Gold Met. Buick Regal S/R. Every available option except a moonroof. Soon after I bought it from University Ford in SD, the transmission had to be replaced under warranty. It never down shifted correctly again. The replacement torque converter was cheap. Man I miss 60's-early 70's cars!!! No black boxes. What on earth happened? Thanks for posting.

I would Definitely have it unless he lives up north. Love this Look. I was a HUGE fan of this style in 67 and ‘68. Then came the Fuselage look after this. And that HARD TOP Feature makes it.

Beautiful color combination! I'm surprised that it is only a 318! I thought that the Sport Fury and Polara 500 had the base 383 and optional 413/440! Dodge planned for vertical headlights for the 1967-'68 Polara/Monaco at first but changed to the horizontal headlights to cut costs!

Hi Olias of Sunhillow, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Seems the 318 might have a challenge moving this car, however it seems to be ok, Lou

@@loucostabile, yeah, they put the 318 in other Furys and Polaras but I thought that the 393 was the base engine in the full size Sport and 500, since the 318 was the base engine in the Sport Satellite/Coronet 500 and the 383 was optional! It would make more sense with the size of the cars! All in all, it is a beauty! Sorry Twilight!
@1575murray
@1575murray 5 лет назад
There is no a/c on this car so the LA 318 is easy to work on except changing ignition points is a pain with the distributor in the back. Some people preferred the older 318 poly the LA 318 replaced it in 1967.

Hi, Lou! Bob certainly has great taste! That Fast Top styling with the backswept rear side window and triangular sail panel is pretty unique. Plymouth introduced this style on the 1967 Sport Fury and VIP, then added a Fury III version for '68. The big Dodge and Chrysler two-door hardtops had this style too. This was one of two hardtop styles offered on the Sport Fury and Fury III, the other having a triangular rear side window with a slimmer C-pillar. I also like the instrument layout and the full-circle red panel in the back (the middle portions are red paint). Although Plymouth and many other cars followed Pontiac in adopting stacked headlamps, the Fury was one of the few cars that still had them in '68, the only others being the Cadillac DeVille and Fleetwood and the AMC Ambassador. As big as Bob's car is, their successors with the "fuselage" styling were even bigger. I can relate to Bob wanting to follow in his father's footsteps. It's a wonderful way to pay tribute to him. If I was able to, I wouldn't mind having a 1961 Chevy wagon to remember the '61 Impala my grandfather had. Bob has proved that the movement, the momentum, the win-you-over beat that Plymouth started back then is still going on! Another job well done, Lou!

Very good looking car Lou. Enjoyed the video. I am very familiar with the 1968 Plymouth line. New options for the Fury for 68 included front cornering lamps and auto temp air conditioning. The top of the line Sport Suburban Wagon included the simulated exterior woodgrain trim. Wagons could be equipped with dual air conditioning with auto temp which added almost $700.00 to the sticker price. A leather and cloth bench seat trim was optional on the top luxury series VIP.

Such a pretty car, this is why I love Mopars, you know I like a lot of manufacturers but it not like Mopars were I like 90% of what Chrysler made.

I recently found a 1968 Ply S.F. (last week). 383 commando. Same color Blue with white bucket seats, floor shift auto. They can not produce a title. It is in poor shape, but all there. Thoughts?
@loucostabile
@loucostabile Год назад
Hi Craig, Hmmm, the title is a bit concerning. Depends on budget to repair "poor share" but good news it's all there. I'd contact two people 1) your states Dept of Transportation and discuss title situation. 2) The Restorer and see what that person shares as an estimate to restore the car. If you can get the title, and you're budget works, then you're good to go. If not good on either situation then might be best to hold off. Just my opinion, Lou
