During the heyday of the Muscle Car Era, there was a handful of automobile dealerships creating highly tuned and race bred versions of the best Muscle Cars available. Famous cars were being offered by Mr. Norm's, Baldwin-Motion, Nickey and Yenko, the most noted of these specialist dealers. In 1966, Don Yenko began modifying Corvairs at his Chevrolet dealership in Pennsylvania. These Corvair road race cars found success on the tracks and street courses in SCCA racing, and that was just the beginning. By 1968, Don Yenko was running a Corvette race team. He also personally piloted a 1968 L-88 Corvette race prepped in the same shop this car was customized and tuned. Yenko's cars were the cream of the crop for high-performance production vehicles, and if you were lucky enough to purchase one of the vehicles sold or tuned by Yenko, you were assured to have a very fast car.
This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette was sold new from the Yenko Dealership and during the intervening years has only recorded 7800 miles on the odometer. Original Silverstone Silver paint, interior and engine bay provide evidence of the car's light use since new, and it still has the original window sticker present. This was not an official super car package sold through Yenko Sportscars, Inc. like the Yenko/SC 427 Camaro, Yenko/SC 427 Chevelle or the LT-1 powered Yenko Deuce Nova, but was sold new, customized, and performance tuned by the Yenko Chevorlet dealership. The car was stored in a barn for nearly 35 years after the original owner's lady friend received burns on her leg from the side exhaust pipes.
