Oh boy, all I want at this moment is a time machine to came back to 1969! I'm 23, but what I really wanted is lived in '69 to saw all this incredible movies, shows and sitcoms! I'm appreciated those things a lot!!
IF you get that time machine take me with you, I have coins from that era...money from this time period would be worse than useless...come to think of it that could be a tv show/pilot.
Oh my gosh... Love American Style, Marcus Welby, Courtship of Eddie's Father, Room 222, The Brady Bunch and the ABC Movies of the Week. How awesome is this!
My, this takes me back. I was in first grade during this time. I wonder why the previews look old and scratchy, when time goes by so quickly and I don't feel that old. I'm 60. I particularly enjoyed the intro to movie of the week. Seeing the ABC logos going by and forming a virtual corridor...I feel so sentimental, seeing that and hearing the music. Then, even at age 6, I thought Bill Bixby was so hot.
The great voice over is that of William Schallert from Patty Duke! He is 92 now. What a superior, diverse actor with a great voice . Shows that were given more than 3 months to bring in the numbers. So much great fun TV shows back then. Thanks William!
1969-1970 season. The ABC Movie Of The Week was the big thing. Aaron Spelling, Danny Thomas, Sheldon Leonard, Self Productions, Lorimar, Bruce Lansbury, Douglas S. Cramer, Bing Crosby, and Self Productions. Spelling, Goldberg and Spelling, Thomas Productions, ABC Circle Films did a lot of those Movie Of The Week.
I agree 100% wholeheartedly with....Sam!!...These are terrific shows, and I would MUCH rather watch these programs over 99% of what's on regular TV today!!!👍👍👍
"THE MOVIE OF THE WEEK" also presented 90 minute "pilots" from time to time; some of them became series on ABC- others didn't {including "The Ballad of Andy Crocker" ("Corporal Crocker"), and the two "The Over the Hill Gang" movies [a follow-up aired in 1970]}.
U bet these "Pilot's" or shows are in a Vault somewhere at a network basement somewhere? I love vintage television..Networks in the 1999 had to up grade to compete with cable t.v. Series like the "Soprano's" would have never aired in 1969 or basic television in the 1980's-1990's due to the graphic violence.
The _Mr Deeds_ show didn't last long, and was the second TV shown based on a Frank Capra movie to fail (the other was an adaptation of _Mr. Smith Goes To Town_ starring Fess Parker as Jefferson Smith that aired in the fall of 1964.)
I recognize the variant of his theme for the game show FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK (now to be prefaced with "the original version"--and speaking of, the original theme was used in the movie HOW TO BEAT THE HIGH COST OF LIVING)
The difference was, Rod Serling created "THE NEW PEOPLE" and wrote the pilot script. The show was supposed to examine the lives and relationships of the kids stranded on that South Pacific island. "LOST" was essentially a surrealistic fantasy.............
Great memories as a kid watching these season previews. In retrospect I don’t understand why they didn’t use the actual scores of the shows. Room 222, LAS, and others had some great theme songs. Way better than this mess.
I am quite old enough to remember this time, but I do not recall most of these shows. I think its because there were better shows on CBS and NBC. Hmmm -- or maybe we played outside, did our homework and went to bed early. Ah, traditionalist parents.
